I drink coffee every day, and I'm very picky about my coffee. My best recommendation is to go to the Salvation Army or some other resale shop and find yourself a good percolator from the 1940's or '50's.

Make sure that the cord isn't frayed or broken and that the pot itself is clean. It doesn't matter if the percolator is glass or metal -- just that it's in good working order and safe to use. The usual cost for one is anywhere from $5 to $10.

I have an old Farberwear Speedbrew, and it makes the best coffee I've ever had, no matter what type of coffee I use. It was a freebie from a friend who was clearing out his dad's estate, and I'll use it until it dies of old age or overwork.

Buy a Bunn! Not the fancy stainless one, just the regular black one. Still kind of expensive, but if you drink alot of coffee, it'll be worth it. It will brew an entire pot of coffee in 3 minutes! AWESOME coffee maker, I've had mine for YEARS (which is why its worth the money!).

I recommend a programmable coffee maker for the convenience of it. They can turn themselves on, turn themselves off, adjust the temperature and even remember recipes. You can set the coffee maker to have coffee ready for you in the morning when you wake up. Most people love this feature.

Mr. Coffee is the best we have found so far - and it's not expensive. We use it for two pots a day.
