I'm sad to hear that your spoken English class didn't help much - I'm sorry about that!
I've been working with some international students at my university to improve their spoken English - really, the way to improve it is to use it! We have something called "conversation partners" where a native English speaker partners with a foreign language speaker and we just get together weekly to just talk. It's fun and it's practice for their English!
Also, when you are reading, try reading aloud. Just letting the words physically come out of your mouth helps you get used to the flow of the language. Then, if you have questions on pronunciation, find someone and ask them!
Good luck!!!!

Hi, I would be very happy to chat with you in English so you can get some more experience using it. I was born in the USA and English is all I know. I wish I could speak different languages. If you want to improve the best suggestion is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE just like music or sports...I've heard people say they like to go to movies that are in English. This way you can see the action between two people and what you hear will stick in your mind and help you recall when you want to speak English to someone. You can also get a tape recorder and talk into it. Then play it back and make corrections. Best of luck! Mama Jazzy Geri

1.Daily write diary of day's events in english before going to bed .
2.Read story books by Enid Blyten. Whenever you find a new word, write spelling and meaning 10 times in your notebook.
3.Listen to dd news daily ( both hindi and english ) at fixed time.
4.Try to speak with friends ( toota phoota, whatever you can).
5. Have confidence, you will soon get rid of 'jhijhak' and will be fluent in reading , speaking, writing english. I also did the same way. Now I teach physics at an engineering college, where all work is in english. In school I had hindi medium. All the best.

Join a library. Read English novels written by British or American authors.Give special attention to the conversational part of the novel. And use English whenever and wherever possible, for practice makes perfect. Think in English and talk to yourself in English. Listening to English movies will help you with pronunciation.

HEY, CHEER UP:

Come on, English is not the most important language in the world. Chinese is. The largest number of people in this world are the Chinese which means, more people speak Chinese than English. Soon, we will all have to learn and speak Chinese. English will be second language. Look how fast China is growing everyday.

YOUR PROBLEM:

I think what you lack is the confidence. You might have prejudice in your mind about your ability to speak in English. Read English reading material such as news papers as often as possible. Try to speak whenever and wherever u can. Watching and listen to English spoken channel or station might be able to help you sharpen your hearing and speech skills. Practice makes Perfect.

AT START:
At starting try with some small sentences rather than making your sentence too long. Thenafter gradually, speak long sentences.

TRY TO CONVERSE:

Try to conversate with others in English no matter how much you are flumbling. This is the only way to break the prjudice in your mind for English. When you speak never think that how the person at otherside is feeling. In most of the cases they are not taking you as negatively as you are thinking. Always speak confidently. Always speak like a King. This is the only way to overcome the language barriers.

REMEBER IT:

While speaking do not try to be oversmart by tryibg to speak in the American assent. Just try to speak in your own style. Do not try to immitate the style of those dumbos on BBC or CNN. Speak as it comes to your mouth.

Watch as many movies on dvd as you can with the English subtitles "on", and practice saying the dialogue as you read it.
Pay attention to the CONSONANTS(letters that aren't vowels)---say them clearly, especially the "L" and "R". Enunciate each letter in a word as you say it, and say the consonants HARD. Keep the words separate as you say them, don't run them together.
Emphasize the FIRST syllable of every word. This is the most important thing about pronouncing English.
Practice enough with those movies, and it will get easier.

Practise hard, read english newspapers/books/magazines, watch english movies and shows. It will definitely work!!!

and one more suggestion dont try to convert your native language into english in your mind and then speak out, try that the thought comes to your mind in english itself. It will take time but i m sure you can do it!!!

and same time please dont forget showing respect towards your own mother tongue in the process of learning english, otherwise you will land up in no man's land!!!
