People its not that hard to understand. hispanic means in casual terms, someone from a latin american country, excluding non- spanish speaking countries, i.e brazil. and mexican.......let me guess.............FROM MEXICO!! If someone is vietnamese they dont want to be called chinese, laosian, philippino, and so on. If someone is nigerian they dont want to be called south african. If you're american you dont want to be called canadian. well you guys get the point, if you dont, i think that pretty much lowers your credibility on any opinion of this topic

Hispanic = Hispano = Hispania = Spain Chicano = Xicano = MeXicano basically the country of Mexico is called after a Amerindian tribe the Mexica or MECha. those who declare they're Chicano are claiming there Amerindian ancestry first and being proud of their interior of reach American ancestry. Cholo is yet another word that still claims better indigenous Amerindian ancestry. The invaders no longer authentic Hispanics or Latinos declare those words and the authentic Mexicans declare Chicano. Spain is on the different aspect of the Atlantic so that's not uncomplicated to declare you're Hispanic and folk with out Amerindian ancestry on both lineages are properly lower than 10%. Chicano is often used through Mexican people notwithstanding it did come from Mexico. shall we do the maths. Mexico 112 million Now 18 Million White people and ninety one Million Mestizos, Castizos, Chicanos, Cholos and Amerindians.

Did you all know that a Mexican is also American? Or a Guatemalan is American? America is a continent, which nowadays is seen as two (South and North America). So please study some Geography and stop calling yourselves Americans, because the United States is NOT equal to America.
By the way, you wouldn't like the fact that a Chinese citizen calls you Canadian just because you speak english also, same thing happens with any Hispanic person being called a Mexican. Open up your finds and stop being so ignorant!

I could not agree with you more! Someone speaks Spanish, so he/she must be Mexican. It scares me to think that as a country we are still so willing to be racially divided. Many of these people will not admit it and say it's because the person is illegal, but if the truth be known if one of them has a close family member (bro/sis, child) bring home someone of Hispanic decent they would just about die! The term illegal is being used as a cover up for racist.

Aren't Mexicans people from Mexico while Hispanics are people from Spanish speaking countries that might or might not actually be mexico.
Better question...Is Latino and Hispanic the same? I thought it was, but I thought I was being politically more correct when I called the police the other day and said Latino. But, the person answering the phone said Hispanic. Is there an actual difference between Hispanic and Latino or is one more politically correct?

yes and no. first it is true that Hispanics are Americans of Latin descent and Mexicans are from Mexico. but one can consider himself/herself both!!!! a Mexican who has emigrated to America can consider himself/herself a Hispanic...... depending on many factors such as citizenship status and the level of assimilation reached!!!!
i consider myself a Hispanic and a Mexican and i am also an American...... i live on the threshold of both countries, both languages, both cultures, and both realities.
and the great thing about it all is that no matter what you think i have the power to call myself whatever the hell i please..... and if you find it disturbing...... asi es la vida!!!!!!!!

Why are you complaining about Hispanics and Mexicans waving their flags I've seen Swedish flags and German and Irish flags flapping in American skies. The only part that you are correct about is Hispanic being ethnicity and Mexican being a nationality.

Oh I understand the difference....Why would a Hispanic be offended by that, unless they are offended by there heritage? If you are Italian, but a US citizen, why would you be offended if I called you Italian? Even though my parents came from Mexico, and I am US citizen, I will always have pride in my heritage....I think your the one who doesn't understand the difference between being Mexican and Hispanic....
And if your Italian, hypothically speaking, what is wrong with celebrating that in this country? Explain?
Oh so your saying no Jew, Muslim, Indian, Italian, Mexican, German, French, Irish can be proud of where they came from and there heritages? GET REAL.....Your the one who doesn't understand freedoms!
