In fact, it s the Austrian or Southern German dialect word for Mirabelle plums which you can call yellow plums as well...by the way, also in German(or rather Austrian), it s spelt "Mirabellen".
They re much sweeter than normal plums and are rather round and slightly bigger... lol love them... what a pitty they re so hard to find (at least in adequate quality)

There's a yellow-skinned plum called a Maribella plum; look at "Week 3" photo in link.

i think it's the same :) alot of german words are the same as english.. especially in food :)
