Well, I personally like to wait in the car like you did. However, if I notice that someone else is getting in line, I'll take my appropriate spot behind the person using the atm - usually giving a good distance for privacy.
She was a witch for doing what she did - I think she cut.
However some people have no 'PR'... Which both of you seemed to have lost in this instance. Sometimes we just have to let the jerk do their thing... and hope you never run into them again.

It all depends. If it is a drive up atm. Yes she is in the wrong. However, I been to some drive atms that I can not reach from the car. So I had to get out of the car. I waited behind the next car to use the machine.

I'd say she was right. If you were in your car, she had no way to know if you were in line or doing something else. I understand you not wanting to approach while the first guy used the ATM, so he would have his privacy, but you should have gotten out of the car and stood a discreet distance from the ATM. That way, there's no question that you are waiting for the ATM.

Assuming that this was a walk up ATM, then she didn't cut in front of you as you should have parked your car and been standing in line.
How was she suppose to know that you were "next" in line?
Personally, I would have simply assumed that the person who was already at the ATM was with you and that you were just too lazy to properly park your car while you waited for him to get back in.

I agree that it is rude to stand behind someone at the ATM. One should not make another think you might be trying to check out his/her PIN #, then perhaps rob him/her of her card and use the PIN # to empty the person's bank account. With that said, however, the lady did not have any way of knowing you were waiting in your car to use the ATM. My question to you is, why did you describe the woman as being black, when you did not identify the race of the man using the ATM nor your own race? I submit that you have a problem with blacks in general.

I always heard it was more dangerous to get out of your car and if this was a machine that was built to drive up to then I would say she cut in front of you but then again if it is not one you drive up to then she couldn't have known you were waiting to be next. I would be uncomfortable using an ATM if someone pulled up, got out of their vehicle and was standing behind me. Anyhow it couldn't have been worth the argument.

No one was wrong, but you were RUDE.
She could not have known you were waiting, she's not a mind reader. Maybe you were with the guy, maybe you already used it. Who knows?
What you should have done was just gotten out of your car and qued behind her, and kept your mouth zipped. She would have been less that 2 minutes at the ATM, and you caused a scene for 2 minutes off your schedule. It's just stupid for either of you to have even wasted time discussing it. No one owes you anything, get that chip off your shoulder and show a little courtesy of your own..
If I was her I would have said, "sorry about your luck, I'll only be a minute".

If it was a drive-up ATM, of course she was in the wrong. If it wasn't, then I'm sorry, but you do actually have to be in line in order to claim a spot in that line.
And why did you think we needed to know the woman was black? What colour was the guy at the machine? That might also be a factor in determining who was right and who was wrong.

You mention it is an outdoor ATM...but there are different types.
Drive-Up ATM - then you were right, since you were in your car waiting
Walk-Up ATM- you are wrong, since you did not "walk up" first
Simple answer.
Keep in mind, it cannot be both drive-up and walk-up since the banks know that is dangerous to have.

No disrespect, Kelly, but YOU were in the wrong. The Black lady was right when she told you that you should've gotten out of your car. NO disrespect intended WHATSOEVER, but I think that you were afraid to get out of the car because the lady was Black. I acknowledge the fact that there are MANY Caucasians who are afraid of Black people because of the negative things that they have heard about people of our race VIA the media. I just HOPE TO GOD that you're not one of them!
