If a woman tries to hit a man during an argument, what can the man do to defend himself, that won't result in him getting assault charges? What are the limits for "self defense"?

It depends greatly what city, county and state you live in, but generally you should try to remove yourself from the situation, and call the police for help. I know it sounds stupid and unfair, but that is the way the law reads in Rock Co. Wisconsin. In other venues, you can use "equal force" and you may "restrain your attacker" until police arrive. That means if you are slapped you could slap in return, but only by means to subdue your attacker, and call for assistance. I would check with your local law enforcment agency for the specific letter of the law. In domestic disputes where both parties are violent, (here in WI) BOTH parties are arrested, and fined regardless of who did what and when! (No joke!) My advice? NEVER hit a woman, REGARDLESS of what she does. Call the police, file a complaint, stick to it! Nobody should have to be slapped around!

Well it depends that county you in, as the law is bais, in the USA I would have to guess you would have to prove that you life is in danger, before you can do harm, ie if she attacks you with a kinfe, gun etc I would does anything in to stop her including killing her is allow under self defense. If she trying to knock you out I would guess pushing her hard away or to the ground or just block her blow, maybe kick her in the shins, but only do his if shes really trying to do bodyily harm toyou. Unfortnally the way the law stands in the west and peoples views are if you go and then report it to the police, all she would say is that you were trying to rape and attack her and then you would have to defend yourself against these charges and unforntally many local enforcement people will always side with the woman, and this has been used many a time.

I was not that long along held prisoner in my flat by a meat cleaver wielding woman for over 30 minutes, and because there was other way out, nor do I speak chinese to be able to phone the police, I had to in the end fight my way out of the flat, its not something I was happy about, but it had to be done. Then I went to the police station with a chinese friend to help translate, I feared going because of what I said as I could not prove what happen, but had to report it because my modile phone and ipod was stolen by her, the police told me it was ok because they know how dangerous chinese women can be at times. Luckly for me and her the girl in question has left the city I'm at and is no longer heard off.

Self defense is limited to stopping the actual assault in a manner which allows you to not get hurt. If someone is chasing with a knife, a gun is pretty much legal to use. If someone tries to slap you, you have the right to deflect but not impose any other harm to that person. You can file charges. The bottom line is no matter if you are arrested or not, the police have to prove their case.

It's a matter of degree. If a woman is coming at you with a baseball bat and a serious intention to injure or kill you, few will blame you if you strike her in self defence. If a woman comes at you with her bare hands, it is unlikely she will be stronger than you, and you should be able to defend yourself without striking her. In law, the usual situation is this, it is self defence if you use like force. That is, gun against gun, fist against fist. But in the case of a man versus a woman, the man is (usually) stronger and therefore the force is NOT equal. This is one of the reasons a man hitting a woman is not considered to be OK. Of course, there are exceptions to every circumstance, I am speaking here only of the *usual* situation. But, as any student knows the exception proves the rule, rather than disproves it. Cheers :-)

legally, if a woman is attacking him, he has the right to defend himself attack her back and restrain her. The best thing to do is get away from her and call the cops before she does. dont touch her because the cops will take her side over the mans

The best thing for a man to do if he is attacked by a woman and has to ask what to do to defend himself is go get castrated. I know there are plenty of women out there that could probably beat the hell out of me, but I will be damned if I am going to ask someone what to do to help me prevent it.

the defense has to be proportional to the attack if there is no way for you to escape. You have to take into account what size you are compared to her and you can't just hit someone because they hit you. If you don't want ot be arrested, try to leave and then file a police report, if you want.

As a criminal justice student I would tell you to leave the house, call the police and have them deal with the matter. First off, the first thing officers look for are marks, if you have them she is off to the click, if she has them.. you better hire a good attorney because you are heading for the big house.

My advice... LEAVE the situation.

Leave the relationship you should know physical altercations are not fun to deal with and it's no way to live.

If she swings first you swing back. I am a firm believer that if a woman wants to hit and fight like a man than she needs to be beat like a man!!
