I'm 5'11" and I've dated men who are shorter than me and I have no problem with it and neither do they, so why do people say stuff to me like "you guys look funny together" or "you don't match" and stuff like that? What's really the big deal about the man having to be taller. I'm thinking it might be a security thing, like the woman wants to feel like the man can protect her and vice versa, that the man wants to feel like he can protect the woman. Is this the reason, you think? Or do you think it's because of something else? I mean, I'm 5'11" and a black belt..... if something goes down, I'll have my man's back, you know ;o) But seriously, what do you guys think about this?

"Marty K" You don't like me because I'm a female black belt? Hey, I don't see anything wrong with a woman being able to protect herself.

"-bLaKe-" But that's my question though..... WHY is that considered "funny looking"? I just want people's thoughts. There's no right or wrong answer.

"kristin" Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty proud of it and that's great that you are going for it too. I got it while living in Okinawa. I studied Shorin-Ryu. What form are you taking/going to take? It took me 2 years (usually it takes longer). It was hard work but I worked hard and busted my booty to get it!

manny, i tip my hat to you, madam...for earning your black belt...way to rock the self-defense! ;) what style, may i ask?

and as for the height question... well, i'm only 5'4", and honestly, i would feel a bit "funny" if i was with a girl much taller than i, although it really *doesn't* matter... it's just a matter of personal comfort...

as for our society... oh, my cynical views of it...hhaha....i guess they view the short dude/tall girl as, well...they're not used to seeing that...they're used to the opposite... so when an "anti-norm" strolls along, they cock their heads and drool, or make rude comments... unfortunately.

i wish it wasn't so.

i s'ppose the man-protector-factor comes into play, certainly, as that is what "expected" of us gentlemen....to care and defend our ladies... it's only chivalrous! but i must admit...it is awesome to see a couple back to back, kicking *** together... (think Mr. & Mrs. Smith! hahaha) ;)

peace always

Yeah I think it has to do with natural human selection, for protection but people who are uncomfortable with you being tall and someone you're with being shorter thats their own insecurities. Oh I think thats great you have a black belt, one of my goals how long did it take?

We all need to love and to be loved.

Most of our issues could be solved fairly easily, if we have our loved one supporting us.
If you are hurt by a former ex, well you just need to get yourself up and start searching for someone who deserves your love.
Don't ever be shy .. that won't ever help you .. and you'll have lots to lose. Do what your heart tells you it's right.
