For the past week or so my 2 year old Pomeranian has been choosing to hide under the bed or under a table to sleep instead of curling up next to mama and sleeping. She has been moving around a lot during the night, too instead of sleeping the whole night through. I have heard her gnawing and scratching at herself so tonight I got up and turned over so her belly was facing up. She has some areas that look infected on her tummy and on her hind legs. They seem to have tiny speckly brown dots. I will, of course, be a good mommy and make a vet appointment in the morning, but until then...anyone have any experience with this? What could it be??? I am worried about my pup! :-(

I checked for fleas and there are none. Not in ears or rectal area...2 places I know they like to hide!

From what you're saying, it doesn't sound like boredom chewing. It could be almost anything from fleas to contact dermatitis or other allergies. Mites are a possibility, as well. In any case, a trip to the vet is in order, as you already know.
A couple of things to think about: have you changed the brand of laundry soap you're using, or are you using a new kind of carpet deodorizer or other cleaning product? Has your yard been recently fertilized or sprayed with pesticides? (For that matter, has anyone else's yard been treated in your immediate area?)
Have you changed the type of food she eats or the treats that she gets? How about a new shampoo or a new groomer who uses different products? Any change in your dog's environment can sometimes cause allergic reactions.
Personally, I would avoid treating her with OTC meds or shampoos, since they can cause their own set of problems. Good luck at the vet's, and I hope your fur baby is back to her old snuggly self soon! :-)

Parasite Fleas. They are so tiney you can't see them. If she has this problem you can do several things.
1. Get Baby powder and satuarate your puppy completely with the powder and try not to let her shake it off for at least 20 minutes. The flea parasites will die.
2. You can get a bottle of lindane insecticide. Add one tea spoon of it to one quart of water and mix it in a spray bottle and spray your puppy down...keep it away from the eyes. This will give you about 75% Pure Lindane and anything on that puppy crawling is going to be dead in a matter of minutes even parasites so tiny you can't see those jokers, but they can't survive lindane. I use it on my Redbones and they have no fleas or ticks.

It really sounds like fleas, but even if the human eye can not detect the flea they can still be deep under the animals fur.
I would suggest purchasing a flea powder, just give it a try. Flea deterant isn't as costly as a vet visit.

Sounds like an allergy. But could be a plethora of things.
Have you changed anything in the last while. Different soap, carpet shampooed, moved furniture? Has anything changed in the neighborhood? New dog, new cat? Have you taken in a new animal? Kids moved out? In? Anything can set a dog "off" and into some new behaviours.

You are doing the best thing by taking her to the vet. So many dogs, like so many people have allergies or allergic reactions. I recently had a client from Obedience class that had to return her dog to the breeder because she was allergic to her house. Worst case scenario, I know, but wierd none the less.
Good luck- your vet will have some answers for you :)

If that's undesirable, take her to the vet. There could be a good style of issues happening - tension, pores and skin illness, or a foodstuff allergy. Or elusive fleas (each and every now and then they're sturdy at hiding). Take him in and be advantageous you tell the wide-unfold practitioner approximately your canine - environment, his walking ordinary, what and how plenty you feed him, etc. The proffesionals understand terrific!

Oh dear, it has to be fleas. It drives them crazy, . There is a dog flea medicine that you paint on the dogs back beneath all the fur. The dog has to be clean so give him a bath first.
Vacuum his sleeping area and wash his bed.
Good luck.

It's a good idea to take it to the vet ASAP as you said you will, but other than that, I think it has fleas.
