differences in beliefs, or the way we present our thoughts, opinions, etc to others.
I'm not only talking about people of different religions, but even slight differences in beliefs among the same religion (i.e. doctrinal differences in Christian denominations).

The way we present our thoughts....
I've had respectful conversational debates with various different beliefs. It all comes down to one thing, which is respect.

I believe that for many just the simple fact that there is a differnce is enough to cause conflict. I served a mission for 2 years (yes I am Mormon), on that misison I cam accross hundreds of people who only wanted to tell me how wrong I was, when all I wanted was to show them how much we had incommon and that we also worship Christ as our savior. It saddened me to have them feel that I was so lost I did not deserve to betreated like a Human being. All I wanted was to let people know I was not all that different then they where and let them know I loved them enough to share with them somthing that helped me. I never told anyone they were wrong only that I wanted them to listen and pray and ask God what they should do. I still to this day get tears in my eyes when I think of all the doors I had slamed in my face. All I wanted was for them to listen and ask God. I hope they get that chance again.

Think about it this way, if we alled agreed with each other in all aspects where would the challange be to change. Some desire the stars, some desire cures, some desire charity.
The fact is conflict can be out the best in the human race, and yes there are negatives but man is still here.......

The root problem:
1) Lack of knowledge
2) Understanding
3) Wisdom
4) And in many cases, Experience.

Lack of tolerance is due to one of these listed above.

I would think differences in beliefs, cause people are more likely to get hot and bothered if someone else believes differently than them, and they can't understand why.

It's not the differences...I think it's the way we present our thoughts and opinions. Some people are just abrasive and not respectful, and have to have the last word!

Not the differences, but the intolerance of them. Even slight ones.

individual's religious orientations and worldviews, as these reflect an integral part of their personalities and define their purposes ("raison d'etre") in life. A conflict is subjective to one's perception of reality.

Maybe a little of both, I honestly think that we should all learn to believe our own religion, and not downsize other people for what they believe in, i honestly think that if your muslim or jewish or anything, whatever you believe in is right with you, and whatever i believe in is right with me.
