I've spent years looking for my father, who I've never met. I'm about 98% sure that the phone number and address I have finally located are his but I cannot make myself call or write. I think I'm afraid that he may reject me again. Has anyone felt this way and how did you get past it to make the call?

I have felt this way. I didnt know my father, at the time 17 yrs. I was about 6 months to getting married, and I thought he would like to know. I finally called after hours of dialing and hanging up, finally I allowed someone to pick up, and simply asked for him. When he got on the phone, I said, hello, you may not remember me, but im your daughter shawna. He sounded so happy to hear from me. I tried to call back a little before my wedding, and his wife of nine yrs said not long after he talked to me, he took off and never went back. I finally got over it. I have a step dad that loves me very much. Besides, my mom raised me, and I am just proud I had her.

My father left after 40 years and my mother never knew what happened.

My uncle found and address and I sent a letter.

He wrote back, asking to meet.

We met him three Easter ago in Healdsburg.

They got back together.

I sent the letter with a way to create a layer of deniability, because whether it was him or not, it was never for me, but for my mother

my son in law saw his name on the internet and thought it was his birth mom looking for him, he responded but it was his stepsister, and he found out his mom had been murdered, but it was her last and only wish to find him, as she never wanted to give him up, but her parents made her. so the meeting with the stepsister was sort of a bittersweet thing, and sort of sad knowing he would never get to meet his birth mom, but it touched his heart that she had him in her every thought. i would make the call even it it meant rejection, because you will always wonder about the outcome if you don't make an effort.

That's a very iffy situation. Just know that whatever happens you searched for it. Things can be great after that phone call or they can be hell. Just be prepared either way.

Just write down what you want to know just in case you forget. Then go for it . You won't be happy until you find out what could be instead of what could have been.
