What a RUDE friend.
Keep an eye on your newborn...always keep checking up on him and yourself by a doctor. The Doctor should have told you what to do. You are just asking for sympathy here....it's very dangerous to take advise from people from the internet. Getting opinions are fine, but please don't ask, "What should I do" (about ANY person) when it comes to diseases or infections.....cause, WE DON'T KNOW...we are NOT doctors and you shouldn't EVER trust someone when they claim to be a doctor and take their advise from person FROM the internet!
You main question is, "will my newborn catch it?"
You should Always ASK his doctor and/or your's!
Oh and, CONGRATULATIONS on having a sweet baby!

Yes, the newborn can catch it from you, from your clothes and hands. Scabies is nothing to be afraid of. You and all your children must be treated at the same time with a scabicidal drug, including the newborn, even if he does not appear to have it. Then wash all your clothes , towels and bed -linen in hot water. This is necessary to prevent re-infection. Good luck!
I am a pediatrician.

Since infants don't have an immune system yet I would keep a watchful eye on the baby's skin and if you see any changes that would suggest scabies I could return to the doctors office or ER

From what people tell me about scabies, its no big deal. I understand where children getting infected would alarm you. I don't know whether its bacterial or parasitic, but I think its either the antibacterial cleaners or the bug spray that wards it off. The baby may be in a slightly different environment from the others because, you know, clean blankets, diapers,....Ya just take care of a baby differently.

More then likely your baby can... i would think so.. im not a doctor but a baby can catch anything and normally worse then any other child expecally if you dont breast feed... they have hardly any immune system... if i were you i would call another doctors office and talk to a nurse... tell her you need a second oppinion about this... and if nothing else www.webmd.com

If you avoid contact with the infant with any affected part of your body, he may escape. If not, it is not a bad diseases. Quell ointment usually clears it in a few days.
