My father keeps returning to narcotics. Him and my mother own a business and he's killing it with the abuse. Without the business, we can't afford the house, which won't sell in Michigan's horrible economic climate. I feel trapped between trying to make him understand the situation and finding a way to plan out how to sell the house and not go bankrupt. Help!

Sometime addicts can't see or don't care what they are doing until it is too late. Your mom should take control and cut him off. Get separate accounts and only give him the money he has worked for. Or she should start buying things she can resale after things go bottoms up.

Your dad is caught up in his disease, you can't help him if he can't first see that HE is the one with the problem...As for you and your mom, find a NarAnon meeting in your area. This will help the two of you.It is for those affected by the addicts disease. Family members friends, etc. There you will find help and support.

This is not your problem and there isn't much you can do about it. I assume you have already spoken to your dad about what he is doing to the business. Now it is up to him to decide what he is going to do. You can't force him to change.
