I am 37 wks and as of yesterday I am 1cm dilated 90% effaced, soft and up-close. The doc. said since I progressed so much from my last appointment a week ago it could be very soon. Today I have been on the run alot and didnt have much time to rest and I walked alot! I started having contractions..nothing bad, but I just had a really strong!!!! pain in my lower stomach. It started at my belly button and like it rolled down to my pelvic area. I have never felt a pain that strong before. Now my vagina is hurting. Was that a contraction? it only lasted for about 5 sec. and now my lower left side has a dull pain..near the lower left ovarie i would say. My husband has to get up early in the morning and I dont want to go to the hospital unless its bad so he can sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? Is that a contraction, is my cervix dilating because vagina is hurting so much now? I know your not doc. but some experience and advice will be appreciated! Thanks for all your help!

if you have started labour there is nothing you can do about it. having a baby anywhere from 36 weeks to 42 weeks, is considered full term, so dont stress.

rest and see what happens, it could be braxton hicks. but i dont know as i never had them. they say if you are in labour you will know it. lol, but my waters broke and i had blood, and i was still in denial. we ended up at the hospital without any of my bags. lucky my partner freaked out as my labour was 6hours long, and i wouldnt of relised until it was too late.

ring up your hospital, they will take all your details and let you know what they think

This is the best way I can think to describe a contraction. I felt like my stomach got as hard as a basketball. I never felt it anywhere else but that's not to say you won't. I was always induced and had an epidural shortly after so I never felt the dilation happening. Call your OB!!! They usually have Drs on call all the time, that you can talk to and describe what you are feeling. They will decide at that point if you should go to the hospital or not. GOOD LUCK!

I agree if you can time them and they are lasting about 10 mintues apart if you are a second time mom and 5 mintues if you are a first time mom. Second time mothers seem to deliver alot faster than first time moms. The pain you are having sounds just like contractions though

sounds like you are in labor. don't worry about him getting rest just make sure you rest in between contractions you will need the rest. Be sure you start timing your contractions and if they start getting near 5 minutes apart get him up and go. Also if they get strong really fast dial 911. Best of luck and God Bless you and the baby.

i would say it's pain caused by pressure from the babys head, contractions feel like period cramps trust me you'll know them when you feel them, contact your doc when the contractions are approx 5-7 minutes apart.

When you can time your contractions then it is time to go to the hospital. You should call your doctor to tell them what is going on.
