What progam are you using to download torrent files? Make sure that if your running a firewall it allows the program to access the internet. Additionally, be sure that the port the program is using is open or you will have slow download speeds. Utorrent has a help file in their faq section about port forwarding that is very helpful.

A torrent doesn't take long to download. They are usually small files that hold instructions on where the larger file to be downloaded is.

The download of the destination file can take much time depending on its size.

If your torrent application is waiting for a firewall, it may not have permission to get through. If you're running XP there is an icon in the control panel that will allow you to configure your local firewall. Make sure to allow your torrent application access.

A firewall can also be configured in your network hardware, and I suggest a manual, or the www to determine how to open the firewall up.

The "Torrent File" (aka the seed file) takes practically no time at all to download, but downloading a file from BitTorrent varies on the number of active sources.

The more sources that are available, the faster the download can go... but you're restricted to your ISP's bandwidth.

it depends on the seeders and their upload speed.. and your download speed as well. the more the seeders and the higher their upload speed, the faster it is if your download speed is high as well..
