No that isn't really why, but it IS done. Mexico has a VERY corrupt Government. The police bribe people. The rich are VERY rich there and the poor are VERY poor there. If your use of an abrevation in U.SA means you. Why? because we have engouh trouble making money to make our own ends meet.Just because it's a free country doesn't mean that it's FREE. It's NOT cheap to live here.

Canada and the USA are rich because we've set up the economic systems we currently have. We've also stamped out the culture of corruption, for the most part.

Truthfully, I don't know what Mexico's economic system is these days, but I do know that much of the culture of corruption is alive and well in both government and business, making it very hard for the country to prosper.

It's not about Canada and the US not helping Mexico. Mexico needs to help itself become a first world nation. They've got the resources and the people work hard. They need to reform their government, economy and eliminate the corruption. You've heard the proverb - Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime? We can't give Mexico prosperity. We can only show them how.

Actually, Mexico is not poor. It is the thirteenth wealthiest nation on earth making it richer than many Eastern European countries. The reasons of it's perceived poverty is mostly ignorance. The stereotype that Mexicans are poor because they are lazy is pure bullshit. Many of the poor work 12-16 hour days but get paid little. If you do a comparison then one can look at it like this. World's largest debtor? The US. Percentage of those below the UN bread-line is not that much more in Mexico than the US. The problem is not wealth but distribution. Mexico actually is benefitting from US avariciousness as can be seen by the explosiojn of US/European investment in Mexico which actually now has a booming economy which is, albeit slowly, recovering from the debts accrued by over-borrowing on oil stocks during the early nineties. The cause of the slow recovery is the anti-competetive nature of NAFTA which does not benefit Mexico that much. Those of you who have written ignorant and stupid answers, and I'm afraid that's most of you, really ought to get your history from studying the literature on the subject and not letting your prejudice get in the way of good, old-fashioned knowledge of economics which I suspect is a little beyond most. "Hollywood History" isn't the truth.
Mexico does not necessarily help itself with a constitution that needs drastic revision, but it is a dynamic economy none-the-less, helped by progressive economic regimes which have promoted the growth of the middle class. Ignorant Septics who think that all economic migrants are Mexicans are simply uninformed and are likely to remain so until they get the literacy level that allows them to read a newspaper and not see Bush as an intelligent man. The moral superiority of most ignorant Yanks is based on a fantasy of a world where the US is a moral leader. They claim this superioty by self-deception. The US is a country built by theft, murder and mendacity by immigrants who believed all men were born equal as long as they were white protestant; who believe that they have a democracy (a government formed by rule of the people) when they have an executive leader, voted from a choice of two (1/125,000,000) who has a right of veto. And then they wonder why everyone hates them.

Mexico is poor because the people are leaving it!! USA has helped... in fact, most of the factories that were here(USA) at one time, is now in Mexico.

Mexico and it's people will always suffer because of the greed and corruption. The rich get richer and the poor come to the US.
Way too many mordidas.

Mexico is poor, because I need to get payed, it is hard being the president of the 13th riches country in the world, as for resources , we have few , people say we are rich in oil, but we only come in as the 4th oil rich country in the world. So I ask you, with all the negatives that we have against us , do you really want to get me mad ? I have more money then you, so I can keep the army well bribbed to do as I want them too.

Because we have corruption. Apparently you don't know MEXICO at all so I don't know why you drop an opinion about it. Mexico got several problems and thanks to corruption and all those who didn't vote.
Of course US takes advantage on our problems. US does not help without asking something in return...we don't need US help because with its help comes more problems.

The wealth of a nation is based upon the availability of work,
consumer spending and how it is run by the government. Lucky for Americans, we have all of these in our favor.
