Good for you! My family has adopted, and you have no idea what a blessing it can be for your family.

My wife and I adopted in the US. We have friends who have adopted from Russia. Sorry, I don't know much about adopting from Africa. The most common countries for adoption are China, Russia and Guatemala.

Sorry if this sounds rude, but I'm going to say it anyway. Please make sure you and your husband are adopting for the right reasons. By that I mean that you want to increase the love in your life by increasing the size of your family. If you want to "save" a child from poverty, adoption is the wrong way to do it. If you want to adopt an African baby in order to be like Angelina Jolie or Madonna, this is also a bad reason.

Please also be aware that some adoption agencies will not work with a couple unless they can prove infertility. Although it sounds crazy at first, there is a legitimate reason. Many couples start down the long and expensive path to adoption, then within a year or two conceive and change their minds about adopting.

My sister is doing this right now. She was still required to do a home study, submitted to the magistrate in Uganda. Then a mother showed up that was supposed to be deceased, she has since consented. Now the magistrate wants my sister and bro-in-law to appear, again, there in Uganda, for another meeting. This process has not been cheap, and so far has only been going on maybe 5 months. This stemmed from my bro-in-law and sister going to an orphanage as missionaries. They do already have two of their own children, but fell in love w/this little Ugandan girl. Good Luck!

I know that alot of international adoption agencies take advantage of people wanting to adopt. Try going through StevenCurtisChapmans website, he has adopted many children and recommends agencies.
