The bible CLEARLY states in 1 Peter 2:18 "Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those that are harsh". So aren't black christians picking and choosing which biblical laws to follow and which ones to gloss over?

For the record - I am no christian and I don't condone slavery

Whoa! Some of you christians actually think... and interpret the bible! Isn't that a sin? Aren't you placing yourselves above God? How do you know what he meant? Were you there or are you just assuming that you know what he meant?

Thanks for the verification - none of you take the bible verbatim. You all take what you want and follow what you want and gently gloss over the stuff that isn't relevant - that is christianity.

Thank you Jesus, for exposing the hypocrisy of your followers!

Good Q.
Slavery was abolished by human, not god!
How dare we abolish one of God's laws?

First off, I'm just curious. If you're not a Christian, how do you know what it says in 1 Peter 2:18? Just a question.

Secondly, while I am Black and a Christian I am not a slave. Black people didn't abolish slavery. White people did. If you remember correctly, we couldn't vote and weren't even counted as a whole person back then.

Clearly one cannot follow a law that no longer exists. The point is that we should obey the laws of man even if they are wrong. Just because they are wrong, however, doesn't mean they won't be righted. As with the case of slavery in this country.

All christians chose which biblical laws to follow and which ones to gloss over. However, when they were set free, they were no longer slaves and did not have to submit to their masters. This is an excellent verse however that shows the undercurrent of christianity is control. It is easy to control ppl who are afraid, whether it be fear of god, their masters or hellfire.

For the record....it's good that you are not a christian and don't condone slavery...how bout next time you phrase your question a little less offensively.

OH, is that so, JOURNEY??? What a completetly ignorant and retarded statement to make. I love it when complete strangers try to tell me what I do. "All christians chose which biblical laws to follow and which ones to gloss over". I would love it if you emailed me and told me all about how I pick and choose from the bible what to believe. You have my address.

the Bible is not condoning slavery here. it is saying that if you trapped in the human institution of slavery, you should be a witness through that situation by not revolting.
