ANY governor/esident of the US enters a/any room in ANY building anywhere???...

When the Mayor of L.A.(Antonio Villaraigosa)enters the media room at L.A. City Hall, the reporters DON'T rise upon command by the LAPD...but in NYC it's a different story:when the NYPD bodyguards see Mayor Mike Bloomberg enter the media room, the reporters stand and remain standing until Mike starts speaking...

When in Sacramento, the reporters see actor/Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger enter the media room, they DON'T stand and remain standing, but they do anyway, despite being told not to do so by him, afraid of being arrested by the CA Highway Patrol...

Is it a FELONY to refuse to stand upon the entrance of ANY governor/mayor/the President(punishable by prison time!)???...

Hey, on the original "The People's Court", veteran L.A. County Marshal's deputy "Rusty" Burrell, commanded the viewing audience to rise when Judge Joseph Wapner entered the studio/courtroom...same thing w/ San Bernardino Sheriff's sergeant Joe Cataleno on the current version of "Divorce Court"(going on eight years now!)...

Same thing on the other courtroom shows...

As for the states, it's the LAW that you MUST stand and remain standing when the Governor/LT. Governor enters ANY room...you CAN be ARRESTED for defiance of law enforcement--a first-degree felony in MOST states...

Standing in deference to a governor/Mayor/the President of the US shows respect to a higher authority...

I thought it was simply a courtesy to stand and remain standing when the President of the United States enters a room. DO IT!! Great episode on The West Wing when the Dr. Laura fake was the only one who didn't stand. He "killed" her.
It's always courteous to stand for ANYONE - especially someone older than you, or in some sort of official capacity, until they ask you to sit. It impresses them.
I do it out of habit and have NEVER been ridiculed and often thanked for showing respect.
P.S. Always stand when the Flag passes.

It's a traditional sign of respect for the office, not for the person. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of that going around these days. Too many people out there who don't even respect themselves let alone anything else. It's the Dr. Spock syndrome.
