i got cought stealing a $15 bracelet last year on Oct. 15. no one contacted me about it until 11.5 months later. my court date is oct. 19, over a year after it happened. i have no criminal background, i am in good standing at school and have a good job. what is goin to happen to me? i didnt think they could wait that long to contact me...does anyone kno what happens now? how worried should i be?

it was only $15! god it was a stupid to try n take it, but i was goin thru a rough time and now that my life is together i have to pay for it! any info would be nice

don't stress it too much. it's petty larceny they will probably ask you not to go into the store again and you might get a fine or some counseling or committee service. i wouldn't worry about it.

The real question is: When were you arrested? They have a year to do that in most jurisdictions. A new clock starts running once you're arraigned, which I believe will happen on 10/19. This should plead out favorably for you if the facts are as you state they are.
