Prozac is normally prescribed for depression. Bipolar med's r different. I am not a doctor. There r a lot of biplor med's on the market, lithium-being a common one, seroquel--which made me gain weight, and lots others. If u do not like the side affects of the one taking-ask the doctor to change it.
It is important to not stop medication cold turkey but to slack off--get your doctors advice please.

If you have been on Prozac for years it must be working for you. Don't be quick to change just because a new drug is on the market. If there is something about Prozac you don't like (side effects, not working well...) that is a reason to change medications. And don't worry about what other people on hear tell you about this medication. If it is working for you stay with it.

As far as keeping a job and coping with everyday living, I have just reciently found a medication combination that works for me. Hopefully I will be able to start (and keep) a volunteer job soon. Then I will be one step closer to getting a real job and supporting myself again. yeah!!!

I am on Wellbutron for depression. Valium for anxiety. Serequel for bi-polar. Topamax for migraines and it is also a mood stabilizer. I am on disability for all of the above because I couldn't keep a job. I think that since 1992 when I first got help I have tried almost every medication there is for this. Some work some don't some work for awhile and then quit. You just have to learn to take it day by day, and if you can't do that take it minute by minute. Good luck and God bless.

You might want to try Lamictal with the prozac. It is a mood stabilizer that has been working great for me. I take 200mg zoloft for years. Just added Lamictal a couple months ago.

Watch out! Prozac will push you to a manic state! See your doctor and get on a mood stabilizer asap (if you are truly bipolar)

Prozac isn't for bipolar disorder, it is an antidepressant. Bipolar people need mood stabilizers such as Abilify or Geodon.
