When you first meet him, get some friends together and hang out together. Talk to him on the phone, meet him in public places until you get to know him better.

Organise time with his mates and urs!! maybe go to the beach or the movies in a group set up!! that way u can get to know him and his friends!!
you can have ur friends there for support too if he turns out to be a wanker!! lol

Meet with him with a group of friends at a local hangout. He does not need to know where you live. Several times of being with him in a group will let you know if he's o.k. Then go from there.

Well if you feel comfortable around him then that's the key. ok? see if you start feeling nervous then just after the date just say " I liked dinner but really I didnt have a good time, and it's not you its me ok so really it wont workout sorry."
