6 months ago i was looking for a engagment ring for my wife to be
i didnt have a lot of money to spend but the sales staff at abazias diamonds found me a great quality and good sized diamond for the money i was able to spend. they also backed the diamond with a ten day money back guarantee because i got appraised by a local jeweler and not by some smuck off the street. i'll definetly be a return buyer with them.

I recommend you get educated first. There's nothing wrong with going to the store and getting educated. I mean a nice jewelry store... Look at settings, gold, types and styles of diamonds. THEN, when you go on line, you'll have more of an idea of WHAT a good price is, what the quality of a diamond is, what a good size is (because you've seen one). You also could get manufacturer's names at a jewelry store and then research the mfg. site.

I found that if you do your homework, you'll get a great deal. There is about 70% markup on gold and jewelry - and there are deals but there are scams and "not such great deals too". The more you know, you shop, you see, the better educated you'll be to shop on line. Lots of times there are jewelry stores going out of business (on-line).

Also, I found a diamond at a "buy & sell antique" place.... It was a beautiful 2 carat diamond - so I had the guy pull it out of a setting and put in a new contemporary setting..... lots of things you can do. Lots of rings in the newspaper too - people with broken engagements... etc.

My fiancee ordered mine from blue Nile. It's a great ring, you hand pick your diamond and they offer 30 day money back. you can also design your own ring. The prices are great! Also free shipping fed-ex!

www.bluenile.com

Good luck!!

NOTE: I just read the recommendations of the people below me and trust me when I say, they're wrong! I was a little shaky about my on-line ring, but seriously, blue Nile is wonderful! Study the 4 C's and buy something that's the quality you're looking for at the budget you want. If you don't like the ring, you can send it back, plus the shipping is free so you have NOTHING to lose. I've never heard a bad thing about them and experts compare the quality of their jewelry to the quality of Tiffany's. I just got engaged a few months ago and trust me, blue Nile was SOOOOOO awesome!!

It is not real smart to buy a ring online. Here are a few examples, First of all you will not know what you are buying or the quality of the ring. You could purchase a ring online with alot of inclusions in it and not know untill you receive it in the mail. If you are not familiar with inclusions it is the carbon deposits that are in the ring that are not noticeable unless looking at it through a ring scope. Second you will not know if the ring is real unless looking through a ring scope or taking it to a jeweler to have it appraised. You will not only be paying for s+h for the ring you may end up paying it again to send it back. I understand the convenience of having it mailed to you, but this is something that she will have forever and you of course want to be proud of it. It would suck really bad to buy something you just were not happy with when you could shop around and find the perfect one. It would probably mean so much more to you in the long run because you actually put your heart into it! Good luck anyway! I'm sure you will know when you find one!

I really don't think that this is a good idea, as you will want to see the product in person before handing over such a substantial amount of hard earned money. You also should speak to the jeweler about the "Four C's" and make sure that you get a document of authenticity with your purchase and make sure that you know the return policy (should you have to return the ring later or perhaps switch it for a different design or size). Good luck!

www.bluenile.com is the best website for online ring purchasing. They sell their rings at cost without the mark-up. My friend was on a very tight budget. I ended up helping him purchase a ring on this website. His wife, now, loved it when she saw the ring.

The nice thing about this website is the fact that they give you definitions on the 4 C's. They allow you to customize your ring online and you can see the ring in it's true dimensions as well as in different angles, on a finger. You can buy the ring set or just the engagement ring.

What you see is what you get. How do you know what you will get if you don't see it. Pictures are often deceiving showing the best pic in the best light and hiding all the little imperfections that can be in a ring and drastically cut its value but they still charge you for it. My advice is not to buy on line at all but find a reputable jewelery store in town. If you buy your ring on line it will not come with warranty service or guarantees. Good luck though.

i won't suggest an online ring but i do have a suggestion tht might make your gal VERY happy. One day ,take her out to window shopping/shopping. Take her to a jewllery story *but don't show that your gonna buy anythin for her* let her have a look and try to pay attention to where she's staring. Buy that ring for her letter..Trust me shes gonna love you til the end and she won't even thought of another guy.

Addition : i don't like the idea of buying something online..that is so not romantic!

Depends on what she likes and how much you want to spend. There are some gorgeous, pretty reasonably priced antique engagement rings on faycullen.com. I don't work for them, but want a ring from there when I get engaged.

I have been buying rings from QVC.com for years and have found their prices to be real reasonable and the quality awesome. I suggest you try them. I even like their Diamonique. The jewelers can't even tell the difference unless they look close. Congratulations
