Artificial sweeteners are usually made with Aspertame, which is well known to be an appetite trigger. It actually makes you more hungry! It is satisfying at first, but later on you will feel hungry again. Using a little bit of sugar will not hurt you. Just don't overdo it.

You are completely fine.
I do the same thing, I eat sweetened oatmeal every morning with a packet of artificial sweetener, just doesn't taste the same, does it ?
Splenda, sucralose, all those artificial sweeteners will give you the same taste as sugar for way less calories than actual sugar.
The only thing I would recommend is that you don't eat too much. I am not sure on an exact number of grams you should eat a day, but just keep it low.

Real sugar is much healthier than artificial sweeteners. A teaspoon of sugar only has 15 calories. Artificial sweeteners can cause cancer. They definitely increase hunger, cause a false feeling of energy followed by tiredness, and make your body store more calories as fat. Some are effective insecticides if that tells you anything about them.

You know what turned me off of artificial sweetners....Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About by Kevin Trudeau. I usually don't go for books like these, but this one changed the way I look at things labeled "no sugar", "no fat" etc. Most artificial sweeteners contain aspartame (which has been linked to cancer), and in Trudeau's book, he states that all this artificial stuff makes you fat. How? They don't suppress appetite. If you want to make oatmeal taste better, try cinnamon. If you are still dying for the sweet taste---add a TINY TINY bit of brown sugar.

Artificial substitutes are not good for you, your body doesn't recognze it as a nutrient.
Sweeteners are especially bad for you, stuff like Sweet and Low, Sacaryl are all the same thing and if consummed in constant daily dosage can cause bad temparement, shakes and even strokes. You are safer to lower the real sugar intake, margarine is another substitute that is bad for you, it is safer to eat butter moderatly. Sugar free gum, is packed with aspartame another thing that the body doesn't recognize I know I get cramps right away when I accidently chewed gum with aspertame in it, I don't chew gum anymore because it is difficult to find any that doesn't have that in it. Just read labels, it is important not to eat dehydrageanated anything.
If it ain't real it's not natural.

I don't think there is any set limit on artificial sweeteners in most diets, but use them in moderation. I know with Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and a couple other programs there is no limit. But remember to much of a good thing can be bad for you

When you do use sugar use only a little, sparingly. And try to stay away from the Artifical Sweetners if possible. A nutrionist can tell you excatly how much sugar you're supposed to consume a day.
