She is very bright and sweet and was a straight A student but has problems focusing on assignments. Recently she finished half her test because she broke eher pencil and took forever to find another in her back pack. I need ideas on how to help her. She tries to be a perfectionist and it is becoming unhealthy

I have a grandson that is a perfectionist, what I see with him is not only are they perfectionist's but they are very smart and learn early on that there are so many different things that they can do to get out of doing things that they used them. I would set some kind of say you will loose this or not be able to do this if this does not stop as they are in control and can get there actions under control.............They do need a reason to for the most part!

My niece is a perfectionist also. When she took her SAT the first time, she only finished half because she wouldn't skip ahead when she got stuck. The second time was a wonderful score.
What I'm trying to say is that there is no way to hurry her, it's not in her makeup. The only thing you can do is help her get organized, like putting a pencil case in her backpack so it is easy to find, a chalk board in the room so she can keep better track of assignments and an alarm clock so she knows when her time is running out.

Typically, children mirror the habits of those who raise them. Is your house organized to where you can find anything you need at any given moment? How can she learn to organize her things and manage her time if the example set before her isn't teaching her that. As for displaying these good student habits previously, the examples set before had not " sunk in " yet. She was still practicing what she was told rather than what she saw practiced on a daily basis by those in charge.

talk to her and take her out to buy some cool organizers. let her pick the ones she likes and help her keep track. as soon she gets used to the routine it will be so normal like brushing her teeth before going to school. All you need is a little patience!
