Actually it is essential to the future of the human race and society that every person realizes and accepts the simple fact that the supernatural does not exist. There are no ghosts, ghouls, or demons. Neither are there any angels or deities. This is the simple and obvious truth. If these things existed, it would be obvious.

The problem with the continuation of these mythic beliefs is that it dilutes the mental growth of the entire human race, slows the development of a psychologically sound human society, and stresses individuals, communities, nations, and all of nature. Almost all of the destructive and self-destructive actions people take in today's world can be traced to theistic/mythic beliefs that have been obsolete for centuries. It's time we gave it a rest.

So actually, harsh as it sounds, if the human race is to survive and prosper, people really are not free to believe unrealistic beliefs. It isn't a "nice" or "respectful" thing to let people go on believing superstitiously. We do them a disservice, and ourselves.

The truth will make you free, though it may first make you really unhappy.

Well most of you do it b/c you have an internal necessity to seek out God. Now though you've claimed you dont believe in God so strongly, you show that you at least have a need to NOT believe in God. Why is this need so strong? Do too many Christians attack your home, family, children and so on so much that you have to post this??? Obviously your the one who's trying to convince yourself that your right, not that Christians are wrong.

I feel no need to convince those who believe in a supreme being that there really is none.

Sometimes, I profess strong belief in the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy. And I tell my Believer colleagues that they will go to Hell unless they too accept the Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy as their saviour. I ridicule them.

Some of the answers have hit it right on the head. Atheists by and large wouldn't give a hoot about churchgoing practices and dogma. In the U.S., it's the religious attack on science, and various elements of our constitution, that have galvanized opposition to theocratic mind sets. If they're going to be "happy" by ruining my children's education, than be assured I mean to bring a little rain on their parade.

And I beg to differ on your characterization of our motives - at least mine. I don't care about "being alone." Goodness is not defined by a desire not to upset others. The forward movement of humanity is predicated on upsetting entrenched, deeply held ideas.

I don't care what you believe. It is just a brain exorcise.

Maybe you should ask the believers why they try so hard to change us. I've never once stood on a corner yelling about it, but I have sure seen Christians do it.

I'll leave them alone when they leave me alone. When they stop influencing national policies with their unsubstantiated beliefs. When they stop telling my friends they can't get married because they are of the same sex. When they stop withholding life-saving medications and proceedures because they might lead people into 'sin', a concept entirely based on their religious beliefs.

Why do believers feel the need to convince us we are wrong? Why do they want to take away our rights in the name of god? Why are you so biased?

i don't think it's because they're trying to convince the believers, I think they are trying to convince themselves. Who hasn't ever stood there defending something and was actually trying to convince him or herself? But that's my personal opinion, hope I didn't offend anyone.

i'm not atheist yet from what I even have talked approximately, i think of it has much less to do with what the religious guy or woman believes and how they in my opinion worship and greater with how they relate to the international. okay as an occasion, atheists have no concern in case you suspect homosexuality is a sin. if so, then don't be gay and in case you detect you or your toddlers are gay, do what your faith tells you approximately it. that's YOUR determination. although, whilst it is composed of attempting to dictate what human beings could desire to do, it quite is NONE OF your organization. whilst it is composed of what the guidelines are that are meant to guarantee liberty, justice and freedom for quite anybody regardles of religion, it quite is NONE OF your organization. the reason being, your ideals can not be shown scientifically, medically and infrequently not even rationally. in case you have been to call God to a witness stand to testify on your behalf on his perspectives on homosexuality, no God will walk into the court docket docket to realize this. All you're able to do is pull out an historic e book and attempt to make anybody take your be conscious for it that it become written by utilising the writer of the Universe. yet this could't be empirically shown the two. So quite it in basic terms approximately your own own faith. that's the place the priority arises. anybody's own faith is quite distinctive. So public coverage and criminal concerns can not be desperate by utilising faith. that's atheists considerable ingredient of rivalry. And whilst religious human beings become in contact in making such determination, the atheists sense forced to call for information of the comparable educational, scientific and scientific typical used for ALL judicial concerns. And as nicely-known, the religious human beings can not grant it. even though it quite is not in simple terms atheists, rational Christians additionally believe faith could desire to stay interior own and kin and church realm and not intrude with human beings's freedoms and criminal rights. i think of the only way a super-severe religious guy or woman can understand this of direction is that in the event that they have been to be conquered by utilising yet another faith that asserted itself as very appropriate and ABSOLUTE and dictated the thank you to improve their kin, have intercourse, gown and exhibit themselves and attempt to get rules exceeded to alter their own freedoms and their get right of entry to to information outdoors that faith's dogma. Then they could probable GET IT!
