I believe that fasting is physically and spiritually beneficial. It creates self discipline, eliminates bad habits, brings you closer to God, teaches patience, broadens your ability to overcome hardships, helps you control urges, and so much more! There are many people starving in this world, fasting creates more empathy for the poor. Physically, fasting is one of the best treatments for acidity in the stomach as well as inflammation of the large intestines. In addition, fasting can strengthen the skin and bones, reduce the risk of gall bladder stones, improve heart function and blood circulation. It can also help with weight loss, making the body lighter on the heart and the bones, specifically the back, legs and feet. Only when you fast, you can understand its true benefits.

I'm not sure if there are actual medical benefits to it, although some health gurus have sworn by it. I think that for religious reasons it can be valuable. Spending a day not eating causes some discomfort and keeps you continuously conscious of your hunger. If you are the sort of person who can channel that discomfort, I believe it can bring you to a better understanding of some of the suffering of others and can allow you to appreciate how full your own life is on a daily basis.

I think if your fasting for your religion its fine but I would prefer fasting on like something that holds you back from God if it does involve religion. But if its for losing weight its not that healthy and can lead to serious side effects .

For weight loss its stupid.
As a form of purification or preperation for spiritual reasons it is ok, as long as it is not taken to extremes. Drink lots of water, be aware that you have new limitations as far as your energy level goes.
There is a long history to fasting, but if it becomes compulsive, it can be very dangerous.
