I'm dating my best friend. My parents know we're really close, but they don't know we're dating. We have been for almost five months, we're basically engaged [I just have to get down on one knee, but it's decided], and we're going to start a family.

She's not quite legal yet and I am. That's the problem.

I really want to tell my mom and stepdad because I REALLY want my mom to help me pick out the engagement ring.

I just don't know how.

[I don't have to come out to them or anything. They already know about that.]

If I weren't living with them it wouldn't be as big of a deal. But I can't show them my cell phone because she's the background, I can't talk about relationship stuff on the phone when she's in the room, I have to minimize MSN windows when they're around, etc.

I'd like to be able to be openly happy.

We're not getting married YET, just to clarify. When she's around 20. And I don't care about the damn certificate. A wedding is about love, not paper.

start off talking about love or something then tell her you've been dating someone for 5 months but make it sound like you were scared to tell her. Then tell her about how you might start a family, be really excited. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

If your not legal then wait until your 18 plus, because he can
get into trouble by the law if your parents pursue it, Better be safe then sorry. If your 17 and he's 19 then, just wait. Then you can spill the beans.18 is a age where you can be more comfortable and talking to your mom and step dad. My daughter was 16 when she first met her Fiance. Now 22. But they were with each other for a year, then they got pregnant. At the age of 17 1/2 and delivered my first grand-daughter at the age of 18. (2002). Yes, I was pissed that night but the next night we had a long talk and then I accepted the pregnancy. He is 3 years older then she is. They are still together and have another child 10 months old. Now the reason for telling you all this is because if you decide to have children right away, he and your self will be needing a job to support your child and to show your family that you will be a responsible person. My Son-in-law and Daughter
both work their *** off. Just be strong when you decide
to tell your mom and step dad. But like I said just wait until
your 18 it's better that way for both you and him.

if she's not yet legal then how are you going to push through with your plans? and why the rush to get engaged? i don't think there is a need for that right away. why don't you guys just enjoy each others company first as bf/gf? you have been dating for only 5months. and that is not a long time for you to really get to know each other. but i'm not saying that you wait for a very looong time before finally tying the knot. just a few more years would be ok to allow you to get more matured and more focused about each other.

a lot of couples now are in a hurry to be together only to seperate after a few months together. i've even read one who wants to seperate after only weeks of marriage! they thought that it is easy living a married life. but it's not. it takes a lot of sacrifice and dedication to your partner. plus the fact that you are now on your own. you can't depend too much on your parents anymore.

somebody told me once that a relationship takes on a new turn when you start to live together under one roof. there are a lot of new things that you will still discover about each other. and only then will you get to know the true character of your partner. probably why there are a lot of divorce cases right now.

don't worry about your parents, i'm sure they will help you out anytime you need their help. hopefully you don't do something that you will just regret after a few months, or even days. again, a few more years as bf/gf won't hurt. Good Luck!

If it is possible until the other party is legal, it sure would help matters. If she is not legal wait until she is and then spill the beans and go to a j.p. at a courthouse and get married. Tell everyone, family, etc. and I hope you understand each other and have a happy marriage. Please take the marriage vows seriously, as a lot of kids nowadays don't. Your taking a vow to love and respect her in sickness and in health until death do you part this earth.

Truth is that even you think they don't know, they really do. Parents are pretty smart like that! So, go ahead, ask your mom to help you pick out the ring. Get engaged, but wait to get married until after she is legal. Everything will all work out!

It's hard enough for lesbian adult couples to marry legally, but to try it with a minor would probably make it near impossible! I'm all for gay marriage and think Bush should stick his Constitutional amendment where the sun don't shine, but minors can't even get married heterosexually without their parents' consent.

Slow down and wait until she is legal - then tell your folks. If you go to quickly you could find yourself in some legal trouble. What is the big hurry -you have a life time ahead of you.

Wait until she is of age.

The rest is for Sally G......READ the darn question completely before you answer. If you had read it all, you would have known this is a lesbian couple...Geez, there is nothing worse than someone who can't wait for the other one to finish before they have to get their 2 cents in....even in writing
