I can only speak from my experience, I've tried some or all of the following at one point or another;

binge drinking,
massive overhaul of one's look,
comfort eating,
picking a fight with a really big guy in a bar in Edinburgh and running like hell after I'd figured out what was happening,
getting back into said [hellish] relationship because it was less scary than not,
a brand new relationship! With a cast iron guarantee to fail horribly because I'm not ready for one but I wanted to feel needed,
drastic haircut,
not eating for a few days,
bitterness and cynicism,
laughing at the pain and misfortunes of my fellow man,
rapid embrace of esoteric philosophy,

I don't really reccomend any of them. Except the haircut and the new look.

Now the good advice,

do not remove their number from your mobile, rename it "[Name]Do not call when drunk", because you'll want to. But you need the number so that when they call you in the future, you can make sure your "Hello." says "Hi, I'm happy, exciting and wonderful. Everything you held me back from being you worthless ***********, who's missing who now? Eh?" Thus, you win.

Go hang out with your friends, complain about the relationship until it bores YOU (NB, use multiple friends, do the same for them in the future). Mope around for a while and you'll eventually meet someone new and better. Fact.

You do not actually get over a relationship, because it was a major part of your life, you learn to move on by using the aid of friends, finding other interesting things to do: read books, go shopping, movies, dinner and etc. Then write all positives and negatives, things about your relationship and you will see why moving on is the best for you.

Exercise & take time for yourself. Get involved in fun activities w/ friends. Don't necessarilly get involved in a rebound relationship...learn to be independent and love yourself first. That way, when you meet someone else, you won't be super needy and get into another unhealthy and doomed relationship. Healthy self-sufficient women attract strong, amazing men, so in the long run, you'll be better off.

everytime you think about him / her and get all gushy and upset, think of the bad things - the bad times, the things you do not like about that person, ways that they've mistreated you. Just keep reminding yourself of the negative aspects of the relationship until you get over the obsessive hump (of every time you think of him/her you want to cry and get back together).

use your friends as your support system.... also take up a hobby or new sport. just keep yourself busy but give yourself time to get over the relationship. i find that writing helps a lot.... good luck. time can heal wounds.

Do what I did. Buy a motorcycle, hit the road, and go visit friends and family. People who really care about you.
