We once had a cat with sores/scabs under his chin. Turns out to be feline acne, which was easily treated with a $15(or around that) prescription cream that we put on once a day for a few weeks. Yup, kitty zits. :0)

I agree with the procedure of cleaning the wound with hydrogen peroxide 3-4 times a day and using antibiotic ointment. As long as there is pus, try to keep it open so it can drain; otherwise it may form an abscess. If you can see the head of a larva in the wound, your cat has a botfly. The botfly lives in southern Canada, eastern US, Mexico and Central America. The larvae develop mainly in rodents and rabbits, but a cat can pick it up when investigating a rodent den. It is unpleasant but relatively harmless, and the larva will come out on its own when ready to pupate. So don't be too quick to pull it out, as you might break it and leave part of it inside and cause a worse infection. Botfly larvae can be removed with care if you know what you are doing. Anyway maybe it's just a regular infection. Keep it clean and give the cat good nutrition.

Does he have fleas?? Put some triple antibiotic cream on the places 2-3 times a day. this should help. If he does have fleas, you are going to have to get them gone.....

Besides fleas make sure you don't feed straight out of the can or other dish where it may irritate the chin because of a sharp/rough rim.

sounds like kitty acne. yes it does exhist. I don't know what to do for it except to send you the vet. Your vet may recommend something over the phone. I just leave it alone. My Sophie just had an outbreak and it cleared on its own..

It sounds like feline acne to me. Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Feline Acne". She will tell you how to treat and get rid of this condition.
