Quran 4:34 "(As to those MUSLIMAH’S) on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and BEAT THEM;" http://cwis.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/004.qmt.html

Under Islamic law hes allowed to, and Muslims consider themselves to have only one nationality...Islam.

So if you intervene, based on the laws of the state, the Muslim doesnt recognize that you have a right to do so, in fact, quite the opposite, he feels that you offend is religious rights.

So, suppose a Muslim man is beating the tar out of his woman...what do you do?

Does it make a difference whether or not she is volitionally part of the religion and marriage? Suppose she hate non-muslim culture, like most muslims do, does this influence you?

Not in Saudi Arabia or Iran--I'd be killed.

But if I saw it on the streets of the good old US of A, you'd better believe it. Women have rights here and since I don't buy into the validity of the Quran (Kudos on proper spelling), I don't believe in any religious hocus-pocus ramifications.

I once knew a Jordanian exchange student who beat his host sister and claimed he had the right to under the Qu'ran--He fled the US before he could be deported or arrested.

Yes I would. The only time I would not is if she requested I not intervene. That is what is so great about the US, I could slam his head and not have to worry about being arrested or killed as would be the case if it were to happen in one of those wonderful Islamic countries.

If the act took place in the US, I would call the police. Whatever the religion, this is still a country of laws that govern everyone, irregardless of faith. If the couple wishes to practice those tenets of their faith that violate US law then they need to move to another country that follows Islamic laws.

You mean if we saw a Muslim man in public tap his wife on the arm with a toothbrush so light that it doesn't even leave a mark (as mandated by Islamic law) if we would intervene? Well, first of all you'd have to find a Muslim man who would embarass himself in public like that. Not to mention that she would have to be one of those who wouldn't laught at him for having the gall.

If he were actually being physically abusive as Islam forbids, then absolutely I would intervene, and I'd be sure the police knew about the situation as well.

It is not allowed to "beat" but the verse here means something like spanking not more than that..and not in the public of course but at home..prophet Muhammad pbuh told us that the worst men are those who beat their women..and told us that the best are those who are good to their wives.

No one will beat a woman in my presence. Not ever. Their barbaric religion be damned.

I would step in to stop him. Period. I've done it before, and I would do it again. I'd worry about HIS rights, religious or legal, later.

I'd kick anyone's @$$ who was beating on someone weaker than they are, regardless of their religion.
