You are the best! yes yes yes you can keep a stray kitten, you have to earn its trust first. Figure, its been wild, hunting for food, and its' instincts are to shy from moving objects.
Put food out and that will let it know your home is a place of haven. Then gradually stay still and let the kitten come to you, Little by little. Patience is the key, but make it fun, too!
Then it will want to be around you , and come to think of your place as home. Plan to take it to a vet for a check up, kitten immunizations and get it spayed or neutered. there are usually clinics that will help with the cost if $$$$ is a problem.
Cats basically adopt people, so this kitten has chosen YOU to be with, you can look forward to having made a good friend.
My stray kitten adopted me, and is now a house cat very well behaved,
Good luck!

a stray kitten is called a ferel cat they generally do not come around to being petted they will always eat the food you leave out if you want to keep this kitten you will have to catch and put it in a room after a week of you going in and out it will not be so nervous after a month you should be able to pick it up ... it really depends on the age and the cat it self just last june we found a set of kittens the one bite me first time I touched her her brother did not but in the end her and I were friends and no matter what I did I could not socialize the male cat so in the best interest of the cat I had him put down. I know this sounds cruel but in reality its not ferel cats die due to the elements lack of food other animals hit by a car etc.. If I could not socialize him he could not be put up for adoption and I was not going to put in back in the woods and hoped he survived.... he had a good life even if he did not know it.so back to the question it depends on the cat and you but they do not come around trap him bring him in and save his life... when you remove him from the trap be sure to be wearing gloves

be cautious and freindly to the kitten sounds to me like the kitten has had a few "run ins" with bad human's who abused the kitten so the kitten will take time to trust you. to quote a previous answerer "Once a stray always a stray" sad but true most strays don't trust most humans and with good reason as far as the stray is concerned.

Yes, the best way is to offer it food and, depending on it's age, milk might be the best bet. Don't crowd it, though, it doesn't feel safe. Leave the food and/or milk in the same spot twice a day(morning and night) and eventually(about a week) you may be able to set and observe it (from a distance, of course). Each day set a little closer, let it feel you mean no harm. Perhaps set the food closer to the door. When it feels safe and that it has YOU in control then you can get closer. Good Luck.

Stray kittens are a little wild. It takes them sometime to warm up to humans. I kept a stray kitten brought it inside and he has been a great cat but it took him time to warm up to us but now he is great.

I have one for over a year. At first he used to run away when he saw me. What I did was I feed him every day and kept my distance. I talked to him gently in a soft voice. Eventually he started to trust me but still felt nervous. Now he greets me every time I come in from work and even talks to me. We let him in the house for a while with us but most of the time he is out doors.

Yes. I own two previously stray kittens. All you have to do is gain their trust.

Yes but it takes time. Remember that it was stray so it will take time for it to rely on you and trust in you.

yeah, you can keep it. as long as you know it doesn't belong to anybody. just leave food and water out for the kitten and try to pet him and be around him as much as possible so that he gets used to you, then he'll start coming around more often.
