1 - Raise taxes.

2 - Reduce benefits.

You may take your pick. I believe it will be some of both with more of #2 than #1.

Of course, we could all start having more kids but that's NOT gonna happen, is it? On a side note, the high rate of immigration is helpful in this regard as first generation immigrants generally have much larger families than does the established population.

They say it is NOT immigration, particularly of poor people who would become qualified to bring indigent parents further straining our social services. Remember, since poor people pay little in tax and are expensive in services, each poor immigrant is a net loss. That is why we have limits on poor immigrants to begin with. Only well off and skilled immigrants help our financial picture.

Skilled immigration would help, but basically we need to start saving money for baby boomer retirement, something our tax and spend more than you have government doesn't want to do, and didn't have to do while all the baby boomers were working.

It is just as if a single person were retiring. If you don't have enough in your accounts as you near retirement, you work like hell and save like hell.

I am quoting experts, including the head of the Federal Reserve, who said skilled immigration (NOT illegal immigration) can help but won't be enough. Other experts are more blunt, but B works for Bush.

Why, are you an expert?

And voltaire, everyone paid in. However, the government has borrowed from the account and has paid out more in benefits than an amortized amount.

The "baby boomers" should, of course, be paying for their own benefits, but the political system quite obviously allows the insolvency-oriented mortgaging of the nation (to the tune of far over $7 trillion now), and other irresponsible political connivances. There is likely to be a serious political split along age lines in the next twenty years as younger people feel (justifiably) that they are having to pay more taxes - trillions - because of the irresponsibility of those in the "boomer" generation. Being divided against one another does not bode well for an effective combating of suicidal Islamic terrorism, by the way.

The county I live in has a higher percentage of people over 65 than any other territory in the United States. Hear me: Over 90% of the health care here is not only unnecessary but probably harmful, generously paid for by You and Me through our tax dollars.. Those of us who are still young enough to think somewhat clearly, and probably aren't covered by much of a health care plan ourselves (are You?), should be learning to use the lowcost health remedies that actually Work. O.K., now we need an income. Sigh. Maybe with all this great health we're going to be having, we'll never need to retire, hunh?

make all illegal people either get out and stay out so we do not spend tens of thousands on them ..chasing them down, removing them and the ones whoa re getting free food stamps free medical and free housing and NOT PAYING taxes...
or make them all legal and make them ALL pay taxes....and make them all pay for their own health care just like the rest of us who are US citizens..stop sending billions to other countries who actually hate us any how now..keep our money in the USA..
stop this out sourcing to other countries with all out jobs...
and let drill for OUR own oil and tell OPEC to keep their oil..we have enough oil in this country for the next 35 years..and by then we really should not need much oil at all...basically none..so let drill and tell all the Arabian countries to keep their oil..see how the like that...see if their price do not go down to 1 dollar...
if only these things can be done we have no problems at all
