Great question. You definitely need the flu shot.

The nasal vaccine is made up of a weakened but LIVE influenza virus. It works by introducing the virus (by spraying it into your nose) to your immune system, which allows your body to generate antibodies as a defense against the virus. It is very effective in preventing the flu, and even when it doesn't completely prevent you from being infected, it frequently reduces how bad your symptoms are. After the vaccine, you may experience cough, aches, stuffy nose, sore throat.

The flu shot is made up of KILLED influenza virus, meaning there is no chance of getting "infected" or catching the "flu" from the vaccine. It is also very effective in preventing you from getting infected by the virus. Sometimes, after the vaccine, people feel feverish, or tired, or develop a sore throat. This is not because the shot gave you the flu, but because your immune system is revving up.

Basically, they are both pretty good vaccines and the Center for Disease Control recommends them both for people in your age group. Of course, there are reasons you shouldn't get them, and risks associated with getting vaccinated - you should talk to the doctor about those.

Personally, I think the shot is better, because it uses killed vaccine, and that is generally considered safer than getting a live virus. I also used to be afraid of shots - but they REALLY don't hurt much - just a pinch! Although I still don't like to watch them give it.

Do NOT get vaccinated.

A vaccinated person is MORE likely to get a disease than a non-vaccinated person. The whole theory of vaccination is flawed. It causes a weakening of the immune system thus making those who are innoculated more susceptible to disease.
There are so many awful side effects to vaccination that it should be considered extremely dangerous.
Just sit back and think for a while.
Is there any sense in injecting a disease directly into the bloodstream.
We have been subjected to an awful mind control program to enable the drug manufacturers to make a fortune.

Go with the shot, it really doesn't hurt. Would you rather have the mist traveling through your sinus passage where you can taste it or maybe choke on it?
