Well, actually I think I owe our Deist founders a lot more than the Puritans, Pilgrims and Columbus.

*Puritans were horrible religious fanatics that killed "Witches"
*The Pilgrims were similar hardcore religious fanatics
*Columbus was a horrible mass-murderer. Ever heard of what he did to the Arawak indians? He forced every one of them to get him a certain amount of gold or he would cut their hands off. Only, there was no gold on their island. The result, tens of thousands of slashed off hands. Besides, he didn't even land within what would become the USA. He landed in what is now Haiti and the Dominican republic.

Our founders on the other hand gave us rights and increased standards of living... Many of our founders were not "Followers of Christ" but Deists as I mentioned before.

We are reffering to the founders of the USA. Jefferson, etc. Not those horrid European settlers. Get it straight man. I'm reffering to the people who made our country possible. Not to evil religious fanatics who killed witches that arrived before it became a colony.

To Columbus I suppose we owe the discovery of some land over here, though he never set foot on North America. To Pilgrims and Puritans, we owe the holiday of Thanksgiving and a whole lot of residual christian guilt that has resulted in some really good Gothic Literature.

John S said it earlier, and very well. To the greatness of our Constitution, to our fundamental beliefs in Liberty and Democracy, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Deists who were our Founding Fathers.

PS: Deists believe in an Impersonal Supreme Being. They do not believe/worship Jehovah, nor do they think Jesus was Divine, therefore, they are most certainly NOT Christians.
