When you feel sorry for something you aren't responsible for.

Religion is good at foisting unwarranted guilt on people. They make lists of rules that are impossible to follow, then say you'll go to Hell if you don't get emotionally attached to a dead guy and ask for his forgiveness. Even if you are a really good person, they dump "original sin" on you which is supposedly Adam's fault, but you're supposed to feel sorry for that, too.

Guilt that shows up for no apparent reason. Sometimes you find out later what is was. Sometimes it is a chemical imbalance or alcohol detox. Other times the Holy Spirit. Hang in there is you are experiencing it. If not then Great question.
