Please don't put crown moldings on your ranch home! Its not appropriate to that style of home....It is only appropriate for traditional or formal style homes.....A 50's ranch style home is much more casual and even contemporary.....Actually, I think crown molding is becoming passe and may be considered dated in a couple of years, too many people doing it!

Crown moulding is defineately appropriate in your home. Many homes from this time period have the moulding. I'm not sure what part of the country we're talking but homes in the north are particularly noted for keen woodwork. Now the species and wood are what might determine "fitting" or not. Many turn of the century homes and up into the 60's would be most fitting with a dark stained cherry or mahogany. Install pine or poplar crown and paint it white, and it may look to modern. This is also vastly determined by the other elements in the home such and furniture, flooring and wall finish. Hope that helps.

as long as you have the right tools ie. a saw with angle blocks and a hammer. it's not too hard. If you have access to a nailing gun that would be even better as you won't need to worry about missing the nail with the hammer and messing up your crown molding. the rest is just a matter of taking proper measurements and cutting the angles at the corners properly. I would check with your local home building store (or wherever you plan on buying your molding from) for tips as well.

Crown moulding improves any room. The corner pieces they have are so nice because you don't have to do that fun angle cut and it looks very nice.

I have it in the kitchen/living room of mine and no one, even my fussiest guests, has ever complained.

The house was designed by the architect who did this entire development as the place he lived while all the construction of the neighborhood was going on.

i would not do it in your case unless you plan on adding the millwork to the windows , otherwise the room will look unfinished.
