How dilated do you have to be in order to lose your mucus plug? I am 1cm and I havent lost mine, at least that I am aware of. Also can you lose it in bits? I have a lot more discharge but the doc. said its my body producing it to make labor easier for the baby to slip out. Lastly after you lose your mucus plug can you continue to have sex? Thanks for all your help!

I didn't lose it until I was already admited and in the hospital with my first two, with my third I lost it at about 2 cm. Every woman and pregnancy is different, don't stress about it, and yes you can, but for the sake of possible germs and infection I say no. Good luck

You don't have to be very dilated at all, or you might not even notice losing it and find that you are dilated to 4cm! Yes, I think you can lose it in bits. There is a lot more discharge right at the end. Things like mucus plug & even dilation are not always very good indicators of when you'll go into labor! With my first baby, I was dilated to 3cm for almost three weeks before they finally induced me (I was 9 days past my due date)! With my second though, I was dilated to 4cm at my 37 week checkup, and my son was born later that day! It's very hard to say. And yes, you can continue to have sex until your water breaks, when everything becomes so slimy (and painful!) that you probably wouldn't want to have sex anyway! Good luck with your labor & delivery!

I was four cenimeters dialated when I went into labor and they said they had to clear my plug but I also discharged alot towards the end and they said that you can lose it a little at a time. If you lose it you will know. It will look like you blew your nose in your panties LOL! My doctors never advised me not to have sex but I stopped at about eight months because you dont want to have sex after the baby drops because he is right there. I was afraid to risk it.
