I have been thinking about getting a tattoo on my lower back. I already know what I want and its not big or anything. It is going to be a Georgia bulldog G and like some tribal design on each sides of it. I was just curious as to how much the lower back tattoos hurt cause I've never had one. Do you think what I am considering would be to big to start out with on my first time? I really want it though!

I'm from Atlanta and I say a big YES to the DAWG pride!
As far as stretching, I have a tat on my lower abdomen (strategically placed b/c I didn't really want to show it off, got it for ME!) and then I got pregnant and it never stretched out. If you have good skin elasticity, it's nothing to worry about. The pain is really only temporary (comared to a major piercing for example). It only hurts while you're getting it done and then it's only sore for a little while afterward.
As far as whether it's too big for your first one, that doesn't really matter as long as it's what you want.
When you go get it done, your tattooist will sketch it out first and then transfer a washable image over first that he will then "trace" with ink. Just get a good look at it before he starts inking you to be sure it's exactly how you like it. And speak up, because once he lays ink, it's permanent!
Good luck girl!

Hi ! My very first tattoo was on the lower back, hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil frogs, it took about an hour and a half to complete. First of all the pain mostly depends on the person and their tolerance, it hurts, but once the outline is done the area is numb and it's like a burning sensation lol i have had 6 children 5 of them natural, no meds at all, so the pain from the tattoo was minimal for me and i went on to have 5 more tattoos. The only thing i suggest is make it your design, that no one else will have.

Its is really overplayed- i like your idea. Think about the meaning of a lower back tattoo, do you want people to have a certain impresion about you? I have several tattoos, i was so excited about the result that i wasnt even thinking about the pain. I started big with my tattoos and i dont regret it at all. Good luck!

If you want a tattoo...its fine with me, but I pefer not to get a tattoo because it's permentat and when you get older and wrikly and stuff....it just wont look good lol. I mean I'm not sayin you shouldn't...its a good idea if YOU want it but if you're not 100% sure...I wouldn't do it if I were you. Try henna tattoo first then see how you'll like it.
And lower back sounds like a great idea! My older sister has one on her lower back and its kinda cute.....too some people, it doesnt hurt but to most pll...it does.

If you are not 100% sure, or are still thinking about it, get the design you want done in Henna first. (henna will fade in about a month). This way to can test out how it looks and see if you are happy with the placement before you have it inked in permanently.
Tattooing parts of your body with only tendons/bone under the skin is going to hurt a lot more than tattooing fleshy or muscly sections of your body. Just like piercing cartiledge hurts more than piercing your navel or ear lobes.

The lower back is where every nerve ending in your body ends. And it hurts like hell! I have one on my lower stomach and it wasn't bad, but the one on my back about killed me. It was enough pain for me to say..... NEVER AGAIN!
It has been 8 months, and I even had a chance to get another one that my cousin was going to pay for, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. There is no pain like it. This is what my artist told me to do, take a fork and pressing it hard on your back, scrape down with it, then mutiply it by 10 and that will be "kind of" like what it will feel like. Good luck

it honestly depends on how well you deal with painh. Personaaly for me the first one on my lower back hurt a little it wasn't bad enough that I wanted them to stop but the next one I had on my lower back hardly hurt at all. You will be fine. There are alot worse places to have a tattoo like on your elbow bone. Good Luck.

The closer to the bone, the more it will hurt. You might really want to consider getting it in another area, not from the pain, but do you really want people going around saying you have a tramp stamp? Hey, not that it matters what anyone else thinks, but something to consider:)

Out of the five tattoos I have it was the least painful. Shoulder blade the most painful.
