Dane ears are usually done between 7-10 weeks old. No later than 12 weeks. If you go for a longer crop be prepared for months and months of taping the ears to make them stand. If you are just getting the dog as a companion and not showing a medium length crop will stand faster, but still take a few months. Make sure you find a vet experienced in doing surgery on danes as well. I live in Georgia and drove all the way to North Carolina to have my newest pups ears done right. GOOD LUCK!

Why butcher parts of your dog ? I could understand why if it was 100 years ago and great danes was still used as fighting dogs. But these days the only reason for doing brutal things like that is to satisfy the ignorant and pathetic dog shows. A great dane is a beautiful dog and is not meant to be "altered" in such a way. There is a reason for a dog having long ears, to protect the ear canal from foreign matter for example.
I am not some hysterical PETA member or an animal activist, just a person who feels that things should be left the way Mother Earth intended.
But if you must crop them do your own first. I always wondered what kind of a dog Mr. Spock would have.

You mean cropped. They need to be done before the cartilage grows hard. Ideal 6 to 8 weeks but up to 12 is okay

It's ears should have been cropped when they were only a few days old. Now it will actually be a surgical procedure and painful for your dog. they will have to put him/her under anesthesia for it now. I would say around 6 months of age -- if you are getting it spayed/neutered do it at the same time.
Personally, I say its too late if they are over a week old.

It should be about 12 years old. Average life span is 10ish, so if you wait until it's 12, you won't ever have to deal with the knowledge that you made a member of one of the gentlest, friendliest breed suffer through a completely unnecessary and totally cosmetic surgery!

about 6 months
any vet will have you finish the dogs rounds of shots (i think it is 4 sets) before they will clip the ears. 2 reasons, the dog will be old enough for the anestesia and the dog will also be in a vet's office and needs the immunity to any doggie problems before surgery.
