Don Knotts was a wirery individual although Muhammed Ali outweighed him by well over 75lbs he like to have him as a sparring parter and consultant because of his cagey ingenuity. In fact it was Don who suggested making George Foreman chase him and punch himself out thus enabling Ali to win the fight. Don being the humble person he was stayed out of the spot light and wasn't even at ring side. He did call the corner with instructions before the final round however.

The incident that you heard actually happened toward the end of Ali's career. While Don was giving Ali some ring work, Ali was distracted by a lady who had entered the gym and thats when Slick Don waffled him good. A lesson Ali never forgot especially after he woke up minutes later staring up at the lights.

This incident so infuriated Ali that he fired Don and refused to admit ever working with him.

Bad question because I don't think Muhammad Ali was ever Don Knotts's sparring partner.
