Overall Hong Kong is still a shoppers' paradise, though even cheaper things can be found in some other Mainland cities. January isn't the best time looking for bargain prices, but I guess they are still attractive enough for visitors. If you know any guys living in Hong Kong, ask them to take you to the shopping malls NOT found in the tour guide book. Too famous places, like Ladies' Street, are supposed to charge visitors higher, I'm afraid.

Winter sales might have started in January but Chinese New Year is usually in early February. That means much cheaper things are yet to come, usually in March, April, and September.

To start with everything is tax free except for cigarettes, alchohol and cosmetics. All prices shown are actual amount you need to pay. As a tourist, you can buy those tax free too if you get them from Duty Free Store at the airport. There are so many shopping malls in Hong Kong you can really shop till you drop, as prices are cheaper than in the US. However the sizes there are for smaller frames. So if you not more than US size 8 or 10, there are a lot of good bargains there. If you wear glasses, get some there, a lot cheaper too.

Clothing is quite affordable. In Dept. Stores its comparable to Canada or the US and the selection is great. They also have a lot of flea markets where there are more bargains, but also like the prices of flea markets in other developed countries.

Hong Kong is a great destination. The food is awesome! Enjoy!

It depends on what kind of clothings you want to buy, we have LV, Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Celine, Prada, Tiffany.., etc.., in all the big shopping malls, If those are not your targets, jeans, shoes, skirts of other brands are at reasonable price.

And in January, most of the stores started their winter sales, may be the second stage (Further reduction), most of the items would be 30% off.

We have super expenisive shopping mall here, we also have super cheap "night market", wish you have fun and don't forget to enjoy the great food here, you may need to buy bigger size then you have now.

well it really depends on what you are looking for, of course the high end brand names are still the high end brand names, but you can find some great clothes for cheap prices, like 10 dollars and less, but it depends. If it is knock of brand names you are looking for, or Chinese paraphernalia, cross the border to Shenzhen it is much cheaper. you can get a Chinese visa in a day from China travel services for like 100$

It depends on the store. The high profile stores are quite expensive. If you want, you should go to the flea market in Mong Kok, they got some really cheap deals.
