i'm learning pirates of the carribean for band, and we have a long D trill, whats the fingerings for that? i know D is thumb, middle, and ring on the left hand, and pinky on the right. what finger do i use to trill with for that note?!

It depends on your key signature. If there's an Eb in the key signature than you'd be trilling D to Eb by trilling the left pinky on the G# key. If you don't have an Eb in the key signature than you trill D to E by trilling your ring finger on the left hand.

Trills always go up to the next note of the key signature unless notated otherwise. Sometimes they'll put an accidental next to the trill sign to aid in telling you exactly what they want you to do.

Pirates of the Carribean sounds like a lot of fun, enjoy!

Play the D, and then wiggle the ring finger on your left hand. (I've got a masters in flute performance. Enjoy your flute!)
