In Christianity there is only one God. He is manifested in three distinct different persons. God the father is spirit and is in heaven, God the Son is Jesus and He has a body just like you and me and is also in heaven, God the Holy Spirit is also spirit but He resides in all believers.
Just exactly how and why???? no one knows.

This is the Trinity. God is all three.

The Trinity is a concept that is impossible for any human being to fully understand, let alone explain. God is infinitely greater than we are, therefore we should not expect to be able to fully understand Him. The Bible teaches that the Father is God, that Jesus is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God. The Bible also teaches that there is only one God. Though we can understand some facts about the relationship of the different persons of the Trinity to one another, ultimately, it is incomprehensible to the human mind. However, this does not mean it is not true or not based on the teachings of the Bible.

Keep in mind when studying this subject that the word "Trinity" is not used in Scripture. This is a term that is used to attempt to describe the triune God, the fact that there are 3 coexistent, co-eternal persons that make up God. Understand that this is NOT in any way suggesting 3 Gods. The Trinity is 1 God made up of 3 persons. There is nothing wrong with using the term "Trinity" even though the word is not found in the Bible. It is shorter to say the word "Trinity" than to say "3 coexistent, co-eternal persons making up 1 God." If this presents a problem to you, consider this: the word grandfather is not used in the Bible either. Yet, we know there were grandfathers in the Bible. Abraham was the grandfather of Jacob. So don't get hung up on the term "Trinity" itself.

God is one entity and is more massive than can fit in any one place so the reference is to the trinity that helps in identifying aspects of God.

God the Father: better translated as God the creator. This is the aspect of God as originator and creator of all things. The word father is used specifically in relation to Jesus since Jesus was born from Mary God's role would then be father. Aside, God is neither Male nor Female and is Both so genderizing God is a human thing. Anchient Hebrew seldom relates a gender to God and the few times it does are even between male and female.

God the Son: This specifically refers to the aspect of God that was incarnate(human form) as the person known as Jesus.

God the Holy Ghost: Also known as the Holy Spirit is the portion of God that exists all around us on earth. Possibly in space as well but all references to the Holy Spirit are earthly so we do not know to what area the Holy Spirit covers.

There are many other names and aspects of God found in Hebrew scriptures but The trinity reference is important to Christians because it references the three major functions of God in earthly life; Creator, Savior(forgiver) and sustainer.

that is the Trinity. the Trinity is somewhat difficult for even Christians to understand. God is one God, but he has three essences, or modes. all are equal. all sorts of analogies have been thought up to explain this in an easier way; the Trinity is like water, which has three forms (solid, liquid, gas) or the Trinity is like an apple (the skin, the fruit, the core). hope this helps!

The trinity is very difficult to understand because we are not God but here is simplified version. You have a last name. All the people in your family have that last name. They are all part of one unit but each has a different function. Each member of the God head has a different function.
