I got rear-ended a couple of months ago. I finally decided to put the car in the shop and have arrangements to do so Monday. I also made arrangements to get a rental. Isn't there some law that says you have to be 25 to rent a car? I'm 24. Neither the insurance company nor the car rental people told me that age might be a problem. Am I in the clear? (just want to be sure)

Also, my car is an almost-new (and very beautiful if I do say so myself) Toyota Camry. The guy at the rental place told me I was getting a Chevy Aveo. Can I call his insurance and ask very politely for an upgrade to a larger automobile?

Thanks, you guys!

It's not a law that you must be 25, but it is a requiement of most auto rental places. Some states mandate that anyone 21 or older must be accepted and at least one state (NY) mandates rentals to qualified renters 18 and over.

The amount that your insurance company will pay towards your rental is set in your policy. Commonly that's $15 or $30 per day. They probably arranged for you to get one within the policy limits. If you want an upgrade, you'll be responsible for any excess cost.

The other driver's insurance company's only responsibility is to provide you with basic transportation while your car is being worked on. They could tell you to take a taxi and submit receipts for reimbursement; I've had that happen myself.

if you are under 25 u usually have to pay more money but most places allow for it. I am under 25 and have rented cars before without a problem. trust me insurance companies dont give a ****. so they are gonna pay the least possible money so it wont hurt to try for an upgrade put dont get your hopes up too high

Try Enterprise, I have rented from them and I'm 24. About upgrading, Try just asking, you never know but most likely not. Hope this helps
