With the recent incident surrounding the Yankees pitcher with 95 hours of flight time, is it safer statistically for a person who has recently picked up private flying, or safer for a motorcycle rider perusing the dangerous public roads?

By far motorcycling, just read the paper every day and that will answer the question easily. You have to have many hours to be a pilot, but pass a test and start with a learner permit and never been on a motorcycle, doesn't matter, your in business.

Argument #1 is a logical argument. Argument #2 is a fallacy. A twin engined aircraft rarely have a double engine failure, unless the aircraft has run out of fuel, or suffered engine damage or flame-outs, such as running into a flock of birds, or flying through volcanic ash, etc.. As for an engine failure, all twin engine aircraft are capable of flying safely on one engine to the nearest suitable airport along their flight route. The aircraft will undoubtedly lose some power and because of the power loss, the aircraft will descend to a lower altitude, depending on how heavy the aircraft is due to the load it is carrying. However, pilots are quite competent in controlling this by using the single engine operating procedures that all twin aircraft have in the operating handbooks. It just takes some extra work by the pilots to descend and land the aircraft, but it usually turns out to be uneventful once everything is over and done with.

Flying, no matter what you are flying is by far the safest mode of transportation. Meanwhile, road vehicles are by far the most dangerous. Every now and then someone does something stupid in a plane, and results in an accident. but every sinfel day, thousands of people do something stupid on the road, resulting in accidents every single day
Motorcycles offer pretty much no safety from an accident, while a plane offers some. Not to mention the training before you can start flying.

Statistically motor cycles are far more dangerous. There are motorcycle accidents almost every day but not so with aircraft. Flying is still the safest way to travel. Just look at the NTSB website and look at the number of accidents each year for aircraft.

Flying is far safer than motor cycling. When flying, although other aircraft use the skies, it can hardly be called congested. So unless you do something in creditably stupid flying wise, you will be safe up there on your own. A motorcyclist, drives on congested roads, he has traffic in front and behind him and to both sides, for him it is a greater chance that some other person will make the stupid mistake that causes his death.

Flying is way way safer. someone dies in a plane crash about every million hours, which would be the equivalent of about 60 million miles on a motorcycle.

So much depends on the individual in both cases! On the average I would say flying is safer! Ego's and stupid people end up in the grave yard faster than normal people!
