A home cooked meal is the best meal!
Keep it simple!
Buy a whole chicken (with a pop-up timer is best!),some stuffing,a box of macaroni and cheese,a box of your favorite frozen vegetable (I like Brussles sprouts),and a can of biscuits.
READ THIS BEFORE YOU DO IT!!!!
The first thing you want to do is preheat your oven.Check the cooking directions on the chicken for the right temperature. It's usually around 350 or 400 degrees.
Next....wash and rinse the bird THOROUGHLY,and put it in a baking pan with a 1/2 cup of water.Line the pan with aluminum foil for easy clean up.
Cook the stuffing according to the directions, and cram as much of it as you can into the chicken. You'll probably have some stuffing left over, but that's OK.You can leave it on the stove top to keep warm,or put it in the baking pan around the chicken.
By this time the oven should be hot enough to put in the chicken.
What are you waiting for? PUT THE CHICKEN IN THE OVEN!
Set a timer according to the directions for the chicken (I use the timer on my microwave) and take a break. But not too long of a break...you've still got work to do!
Now you want to check the cooking times for the rest of your courses,so that everything is done cooking at the same time.
Don't worry...the chicken will take a while,so you have time to do the math. You don't have to be exact with the time,as the chicken will need to cool a little bit after you pull it from the oven.
Read ahead on the directions for the macaronis and veggies.Have the pots, pans, water, any seasonings you want to add,etc.. ready before you do anything, and cook them according to the package directions.Keep in mind how much time they need to cook in relation to the time the chicken needs to cook! You want these things ready at about the same time the chicken is done cooking!
The tricky part is the biscuits! You'll most likely be cooking them
at a different temperature than the directions call for,but all you have to do is keep an eye on them. The biscuits will call for 12 to 15 minutes at a certain temperature, but since you're putting them in an oven that's already occupied, and running at a different temperature than indicated, you're gonna hafta put them in earlier than your timer would suggest.
Just keep an eye on them....pull out the chicken if it's done, and let the biscuits cook some more.
Don't panic. It ain't that hard to pull off! It sounds difficult, but it'll all come together nicely.....even more so with practice!
Get ready for a kickass meal!
It can be scary if you've never done anything like this in the kitchen before, but it's not that hard if you take the time to jump into it!
Good luck!
