I heard it on the Tom Leykis Show on the radio ( http://www.blowmeuptom.com ), which there in Portland airs weekdays 3pm-7pm on KCMD-AM 970 ( http://www.970.am ).

I don't know if it's offensive, but it certainly is stupid.

Personally, I don't find it too offensive as long as it's meant positively. On the other hand, it's often not meant positively. For instance, the other day, a "friend" of a friend said to me, "Sweetie, you have no idea how much I want to break your pretty little face." Not that that's not thrilling and all, but I think I could at least do without the "sweetie" on the front of it. For the most part, however, I don't usually mind.

Never heard of that nickname for Portland. I lived there for 3 - 4 years.

I've heard Stumptown, P-town, PDX, Sportland, and a few others. I've never heard "porkland". What's it supposed to mean? Comparatively speaking, most people who live here are pretty fit. Politically we don't get much pork, either.

Lived in Oregon 30 years... never heard that before, but yes, if it comes from Tom L. it's offensive. Isn't that how he makes his $$$?

no, you should hear what I call other cities. I really don't care either ways, it's just hometown competition.

p.s. I think he just made it up on the spot for dramatic effect. I have never heard it from anyone outside/inside the state.
