i know what area of nursing i want to go into, and what is offered in my area. I just wanted to know if anyone has done an access course into University to study a diploma or degree.
I mean, the access course to enable you to get to Uni. What did the course cover?

I did the Access to Higher Education Course back in 1992. Mine was part-time, 2 days a week.

1 day per week was Study Skills which was absolutely invaluable for later study at degree level. It showed my how to write and structure an essay, how to reference my work, how to do a literature search, etc. We also had lots of help with uni applications, and mock interviews.

The 2nd day was Health Studies, which had three modules - Anatomy & Physiology, Health Promotion and Social Science.

I am so glad I chose the Access Course as my route into nursing - it gave me a far better grounding than just A-levels, as the course was totally relevant to what I wanted to do. Also, it was proof of recent relevant study, which they will ask you for at the interview to get into your nursing course.

Contact your local College of Further Education and ask what's on offer. If you do get onto an Access Course, make sure it's validated by the University you want to get into. It's a long time since I did the course but I know the principles of it are still exactly the same. Good luck :)

Yes I did an access to health and social science course to get in to uni to do my nursing.

You had to do the following modules:-
IT
Data (maths)
Study skills (English)

You then had to choose 3 other modules to study

Psychology
Sociology
Health studies
Human biology
sorry but can't remember the others

the course was over 4 days a week for a year
each module was split into 3 sections with exams and course work for each

You work was marked and graded and given either a level, 2 or 3

You need to have a certain amount of level 2 & 3 credits to get into uni. (you need to look into & check with the unis you wish to go to to see how many credits you need).

The other way of getting into nursing is with an NVQ level 3 in health and socilal care, A levels,

I would advise that the best route to take is the access course, check with you local college to see what they have on offer, some may have an access course designed just for students that wish to go into the nursing profession.

Good luck with your studies

ring your local uni for a prospectus and it will tell you the requirements for entry ie A levels at a certain grade or an access course certificate. you can undertake an access course at most further education colleges, just ring then for start dates and apply , you can ring any uni for advice on types of nursing to choose to do and start dates etc....good luck from a current nurse to a future one.

i think of many human beings look at this field as a woman in basic terms, or being female. yet, its the comparable with coaching and hairstylists. that would not advise you're able to desire to not be a nurse. i think of it quite is super that men get into a super number of those fields. many colleges are attempting to attempt distinctive ideas with the intention to get greater men interior the sector. I additionally think of that being a nurse commonly could be stressful, not in basic terms because of the fact it quite is principally women. it quite is an considerable interest, very busy , and many not common artwork those issues mixed make it stressful. stable luck!

The world needs more nurses. Are you aiming at a Bachelors? A lot of hospitals need nurses and will reimburse you 100% if you get good grades and agree to work with them for a number of years after you finish school. check into it. good luck.
