I am on an around-the-world trip too at the moment. I will comment on the places which you mention which I have been to.

New York - fantastic - I spent 4 days there and that is the minimum amount of time I would recommend. It is quite expensive, so keep a big budget for NYC. Stay in Manhattan of course.

Los Angeles - I didn't like LA much and most other travellers I have met feel the same way. A day or two was enough for me, don't go there with big expectations. Hollywood is a complete hole.

London - I'm staying in London at the moment. Very expensive on the Aussie dollar but a great place to make some money if you are planning on working anywhere along your trip.

Dublin - Ireland is great to visit but I think you should get out of Dublin and see some of the other parts of Ireland, like Galway, Killarney or Derry. Again, Ireland is quite expensive.

Amsterdam - great city, lots of fun. 2-4 days should do the trick.

Prague - Very unique beautiful city, quite cheap, especially if you get out of the tourist areas.

Vienna - big busy city that has very pretty parts but it's no Prague. While in Austria you should go and see Salzburg - it has more character.

Zagreb - nice place but a bit quiet. Head down South through Croatia towards the Dalmatian Coast/Split.

Dubrovnik - Awesome place. Beautiful. Head up North and check out some of the islands along the coast.

Overland Travel - I noticed you are planning on making your way around on land. I found Rail to be an excellent way to travel around Europe. The train journeys are fast and the railway stations are convenient. Think about getting a Eurail pass.

well, i was recently in england, prague, italy and croatia.
daily budget id say - 100 usd/ prague
(50-80 usd elsewhere in the czech rep)
- 200 usd venice
- 150 usd england
- max. 100 usd croatia

Cheapest transport in europe is by bus, then by plane.
train is the most expensive, i guess, surely in england.

Prague (particularly) and Venice are beatiful, worthy of visit is croatian sea side, as well.
cheapest low fare airlanes are: ryannair, bmibaby, easyjet and smart wings. They usually fly from London and many more cities.
