In some cases, YES, they believe only because they grew up being told about God. In most cases though, those people become agnostic for a while at some point in their lives, usually around 20 or so.
And then they begin to think. A thinking person knows the Bible isn't literally correct about creation and all, but still, no one can explain creation without there being a creator (pre Big Bang), and the wonders and mysteries that exist in our world.
Many have had prayers answered, some feel they have had a "contact" with our God. And I do believe there is a built in need for us to feel there is a superior being. When one does believe, there is an inner comfort just in having that faith; so that alone is a benefit of believing.
Good luck to you in your quest for the truth. And, God bless you and give you comfort and strength.

When you get a chance glance through a book called New Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell. It should be at Barnes and Nobles. It is full of credible proof. Long story short, the author didn't believe the bible was credible and after a challenge from his buddies in college to prove this was so he actually proved that it is a credible book.
The book written by him is just documented research that he did. It is not in a story form it is full of facts.
To give you an example of how thorough he is in his investigation he spent about 700 hours on Christ life, death, and resurrection alone.
Hope that helps.

I didn't believe in God for a long time, and I was told all the while that I should.
I began having faith in God once I asked him--in whom I begun to only barely believe--to reveal himself to me. And he did.
There is no credible proof of God, if by "credible" you mean "can't be argued against in some way." The only credible proof I know of is that God speaks to my soul, and this I cannot prove to you.

There is no credible proof. And that is why they call it faith. To worship Someone that cannot be seen, heard or talked to. And there must be people out there who believe in God because they are told to.

The Bible is the word of God, It was written many many years ago, and just now the things it predicted would happen, are happening, and the things it says has happened, are being proven., people don`t believe in God, but the Bible talks about Homosexuals, well that was going on many many many years ago, and cities were destroyed for it, and its told in the Bible about it happening today, and this may have been going on for some time behind closed doors, and it was hush hush, but LOOK today at how the world is, and this is in the Bible. Man would not have known this so many years ago.and thats just one of the things that would befall us in the last days, there are many other things the Bible tells about, that are now coming to pass.

Man has created Gods for as long as he has been on the earth because he does not want to die, but wants life everlasting. Gods were created to give us life everlasting and to explain where we came from.
Another consensus among many Muslim scholars and clerics that have been addressing the American people, and indeed the world, is that the religion of Islam also worships the very same God as the Christian or Jew.

No to the first question. The real God usually does not provide the proof you seek, sorry. It's about faith and being obedient to the teachings in the sacred texts of the Bible. A true change of heart, not coerced, only done by your own free will when you choose to change your way to the one of Christ.

The universe's existence is evidence. It can't cause itself. The Bible gives good evidence with its numerous interactions between God and humans. Jesus' death is pretty good evidence. Many disciples died believing He'd risen again. They wouldn't have done that if it weren't true. Also, Paul never would have become a Christian if Jesus didn't meet him on that road, since he got paid to kill them. The fact that he became a Christian is a good testament to its validity.
